HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX!

Fantastic, busy day on tap today.  First up is Alex's 8th birthday party in the early afternoon, followed by tailgating time at the RBC Center.  Then, it's on, Baby!  Hurricanes vs. Canadiens tonight at 7:30.  :)

I got some great sleep last night and feel really good this morning.  My legs are a bit tired, mostly from the bike yesterday, but no soreness.  There might be a little second day soreness tomorrow that I hopefully can work out with a lunch ride.

The race was a blast yesterday, as usual.  ;)  Met up with some old BT friends and several new ones.  I messed up starting my hrm timer at the swim start, so I just started it at the entrance to T1.  I really pushed hard on the bike and I'm very happy with it.  I haven't compared any times to last year yet, but I know I have never ridden that hard during a race.  The result doesn't matter.  My effort was great.  :)  I hope to get the race report written up tomorrow.  Today will just be a bit too busy.  :)  The official results should be posted at Setup-inc.com by then.

Have a great Sunday, everyone!  :)

Bike
  • 42m 47s
  • 12.38 miles
  • 17.36 Mi/hr

I pounded the bike leg! I'm very pleased with my ride. 5 minutes faster than last year!

Run
  • 28m 55s
  • 3.10 miles
  • 09m 20s /Mi

I had to stop and stretch my left calf twice in the first 1/2 mile to keep it from cramping. Right after that, I started getting a good side stitch from drinking too much on the bike. These sapped my mental focus. I had to ease up a bit to recover from the side stitch and I never really picked it up again. I did keep up a decent pace, just not a "pushing it" pace.

Swim
  • 05m 19s
  • 300.00 yards
  • 01m 46s /100 yards

I rocked on the swim. I passed 4 people in just 6 laps in the pool. I estimated too slow (5:30) for what I turned in.

About 20-30 seconds of this time is running to the mat at T1, so my swimming pace was more like 1:40/100 yards. Yeah, baby! I messed up starting my hrm at the swim start, so I just started it at the mat into T1.

Riverwood was awesome!  Great race, great friends, great fun!  :)  Race results are up now (Mon. morning) so I'm working on my race report.

Instead of getting a good night's sleep, we went to the airport last night to welcome the Hurricanes home from Montreal.  About 200-300 fans were there when the team arrived around 1:10 am.  What a blast!  :)

Now, it's time to get my Riverwood on!  :)

Happy Saturday, everyone!  :)

I was 4th in line to pick up my race packet this afternoon.  ;)  I'm number 208, and my swim time is 9:00:30.  Fun, fun, fun!  :)

Great night of sleep last night, a rest day today, another Hurricanes win tonight.....I'll be ready to rock tomorrow at Riverwood!  :)

I have a little chore called race packet pickup on my to do list today.  It's been way too long!  I'm getting excited.  :)

Happy Friday, everyone!  :)

Let's see.  Goals for tomorrow's sprint at Riverwood.

Last year's times:

  • Swim:  5:13         300 yards
  • Bike:  47:44         12 miles
  • Run:  27:56          5K
  • Total:  1:20:52

This year's goals:

  • Swim:  5:30
  • Bike:  45:00
  • Run:  25:30
  • Total:  1:16:00

I've no idea if I can or will hit these times.  LOL  I've not been swimming much, so I think 5:30 is very reasonable.  My biking worries me a bit.  I don't care.  I plan to mash it on the bike.  I don't think I've pushed hard enough on the bike for any of my races, except maybe the bike of White Lake last year.  My running is as strong as it's ever been.  I'm not running 1/2 marys right now, but my 5.33 mile runs have been great lately.  I plan to leave nothing in the tank when crossing the finish line.

BTW, last year's times included T1 and T2 on the bike and run.  I hope they break out the transition times this year.

Lots of stopping and starting this morning. I really had no focus, flailing around in the water out of breath and thinking about everything except swimming smoothly.

It's 5:35 AM.  Do you know where your goggles are?  :O  :)  Heading to the Y to celebrate the Canes win in the pool.

Fantastic lunch run! My legs felt very strong, and my HR stayed down the entire time. I had to fight the urge to open the throttle for almost the entire run. I finally had to give in for about the last minute. LOL

The Weather Channel has upgraded the Storm Warning to a Hurricane Warning for Montreal tonight!  All native Canadiens should evacuate immediately!!!  :O  ;)  :)

What a great run at lunch today.  I felt full of energy and my legs felt very strong.  The cooler temps (about 60 degrees) didn't hurt either.  If not for my race on Saturday, my PB for 5.33 miles would have fallen today!  :)  I guess it's safe to say my running is ready for Saturday.  Now, what can I do about my biking?  :O  :)

Oh man!  I just checked my PB for 5.33 miles, and I was only 20 seconds slower today, while staying aerobic almost the entire time!  :)

Well, I'm slipping a bit with my workouts this week.  No big deal.  I'll call it a taper.  ;)

Running at lunch today.  I'd like to get in a swim and bike ride also before the end of tomorrow.

Hurricanes take it to Montreal tonight.  I still think the Hurricanes WILL win this series, even being down 2 games to none.  The Canadiens have played their absolute best for the last two games, while the Hurricanes are stepping it up.  I don't think the Habs can continue playing at their peak, and I think we will blow past them, maybe even coming back to NC on Sunday tied 2-2.

Have a great Wednesday, everyone!  :)

I'm going to try to get in another trainer ride later tonight, maybe with a bit of hockey on TV while I pedal away.  Tomorrow morning will be a pool trip, and a lunch run tomorrow afternoon.  One last good bike ride, hopefully at lunch outside, on Thursday, and then a rest day on Friday before my race Saturday morning.  Riverwood is a short sprint, with only a 300 yd swim, just over 12 miles of pretty easy bike with only one real good hill at the end, and then a fairly hilly 5K.  It will be nice to see some BT'ers at the race!  :)

I'm still strangely confident about my Hurricanes chances, even after going down 2 games to none in last night's 2OT loss.  What a game!  I really liked the way the Canes picked up their game.  I think they are hitting their stride while Montreal has played as well as they possibly can for the last two games.  I don't think they can maintain that level of mistake free play.

The Weather Channel says there's a Storm Warning for Montreal tomorrow night!  :)

Another early morning trainer ride. I wish the sun came up a hour earlier...

Not feeling it this morning. I was ready to bail after 30 minutes, but managed to talk myself into covering at least 10 miles. LOL Still much better than nothing!

247 calories.

Got up early and got my legs moving.  That's about all this morning's workout is worth.  Then again, I just did more than 99.5% of the population in the US will want to do today!  :O

I have a great excuse, anyway.  I need to save my mojo for the Canes game tonight.  Leaving work early to tailgate with Sara and Alex, complete with dinner, a cooler, music, lawn chairs, 3 hockey sticks and Alex's hockey goal.  :)  Oh, and about 3 - 5 thousand of our close friends.  ;)

The canes are going to react to the slap in the face of game 1's home loss.  Tonight is payback time!  :)

Have a wonderful week, everyone!  :)
