Cincinatti Flying Pig Marathon : Official Thread
BY: McFuzz on 2010-04-07 1:40 PM
Flying Pig will be my first* marathon.Â
*Technically...I've run two ultramarathons and did Ironman Coeur D'Alene last year...but this is my first race where the only goal is to run 26.2 miles.Â
Anybody interested in a BT gathering Saturday evening? I checked with the BlackFinn American Saloon (7th & Vine) and the menu looks promising for those racing as well as those supporting their favorite runner.Â
http://www.blackfinncincy.com/menu_dinner.phpIf we've got less than 20, they'll put us in the main dining room. More than 20, they have a private room and we'd have a limited menu (7 items off the main menu). Maybe 6:30 PM?Â
Interested? If so, how many would you be bringing (and how many are kids) and what items would you want to choose for the limited menu? I'd need to get back to BlackFinn about April 24th if we want to do this.Â
I'll work on contact information via PM as we get closer to the race.Â

Just signed up last week so I'm in for the full... I would love to meet up saturday... I'm staying w/ a friend who's running the half w/ TNT training. So she'll go to that pasta party and I can meet up w/ my BT friends
.
This will be my 6th marathon... BUT just started training about 2 weeks ago so I'm not running for any specific time. Just to have fun and finish b/c since I ran my first marathon in 07 I've run at least one every year.
Let me know what time we're planning to meet. My husband may come (not sure) so maybe count one extra. -

Great!
Bring your husband. Bring your friend too, if she'd like to meet up with the running fringe (psycho's as Natalie would say).

I doubt I'll be able to attend the dinner. :-( I live about 50 minutes northwest of Cincinnati - just outside of Oxford (Miami University). I'll be hosting a pre-Pig pasta party at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon. All BTers, family, and friends are welcome. Please PM me if you will attend. I'll send you detailed directions from downtown to my house. -

Hey Mike,
I know we talked about blackfinn for dinner... My tri friend from cincy is doing the half pig and invited me and anyone else to go out to maggianos italian rest for dinner. She said that blackfinn is more of a bar hangout.
Here's the menu http://www.maggianos.com/foodbeverage/default.asp?menucat=Main . let me know what you think.... She said she would make reservations for 7pm.

It almost looks way too nice for a bunch of marathoners!
I'd be OK either way.

Actually black finn is a tad more 'nicer' than maggianos - but maggianos is about a 15-20 minute drive north on 71 to Kenwood.
If you want to stay downtown some of the more casual restruants (jeans/shorts) --Rockbottom on the square, Cadilliac Ranch both are 2 blocks from the expo. And there are a few at Newport on the Levee - 15 minute walk across the bridge.
Also it is the Kentucky Derby on Saturday which will add a few more party people out in both areas and make getting in anywhere around post time difficult. I think post time is 6.15. -

Ok, so I I'll tell my friend to add some extra to the list. We have six now, so I'll just add another six. Should be fun.

I'm in - and bringing my husband. We live on the east side of Cincy. We have to hand off the little kids after their afternoon classes to our teenagers and make our escape. We may run a little late arriving.
So,
which place are we meeting? Maggianos? Blackfinn? or is there a group at each? I'd lean a bit toward Maggiano's (love their pasta!) but can do either.

I think there will be informal groups at both places. We'll probably hang out downtown. Natalie will have 3 of her kids (8--14) with her. I'll probably wear my BT t-shirt for the expo, so introduce yourself.
What are your goals/expectations for finish times?
Natalie wants <3:45 and is likely to be 3:40--3:55.
I'll try to hang with her as long as possible, but figure 3:45--4:00 is more likely for me. My bib number is 2677, so say "Hi" when you pass me.

Have you folks run the course before?I live around here and it is pretty hilly. I was going to come down to volunteer in the medical tent as a friend of mine is the doctor in charge of all the medical staff, but I am not sure I'll be there. Came down with a nasty cold over the weekend and I have been trying to train through it and have decided today that maybe that wasn't such a great idea.
Good luck to everyone running though. I have heard from my friend that if the weather is what they are predicting it could be problems. They are currently calling for a high in the 70s.

I should be getting in around 3:30 and picking up my race packet after that. I'm staying with a college friend and her 2 boys and will try to get to the Black Finn if that's still the plan (or one of the plans).
I have no goal for this run but to survive, I should be in the 4 hr range and would love some company! :-) My cell # is (607)237-5831. Hope to see a bunch of BTers!!
