Ran across this swimming area last weekend. I noticed the beach are is lined with buoys & appears to be a great area for training swims. Does anyone know the approximate distance if you swim along the buoy line from 2nd Ave to the dock area where the kayak rental booth is located?

I think it's about .25 mi each way, so down and back is about .5 mi.

Yep. If you go from dock to bridge, and then turn around and go to the "A" buoy then back to dock its just about a mile.

From the first white buoy all the way to the last white buoy past the dock is .5 mile.

It the opposite direction of the bridge. Out past the boats. Big yellow buoy with an "A" on it.

it's approx 500 meters from the 2nd street bridge to the kayak area (i make a large sweeping left turn during the swim). sometimes i cut it a little short when there is a lot of kayak traffic.
using garmin 910xt to measure during the swim.

The A buoy is past the sailboat docks in the water behind the second house with a beach area.

I've swam all over the bay with no problems. I'll usually have a family member SUPing of kayaking beside me though.

I swim this area 4-5 times a week. I have 3 swims that I do.
Swim 1: the big loop. Start at 2nd st bridge bathrooms, swim across channel, hang a left under the bride, follow shoreline under appian bridge around the corner past mothers bay, under Davies bridge. Past lbyc, hug the dock line into the cove, don't go right into Naples, follow dock line back to starting point. 3.2 miles.

Swim 2: Same starting point. Swim across the channel, right turn to follow dock line into Naples. Around the island and back out the entrance. Back to start. 1.4 miles

Swim 3: combine 1&2.

Hi everyone. I love swimming here. I slapped together a rough idea of what I think the distances are based on the buoys... its hard to guess after the kayak area with that open space for SUP and kayak traffic.

Thanks for this info, I ran across this swim area this weekend while on a Gondola ride. Have lived in the South Bay all my life and been swimming for 8 years and have never been here nor knew this existed.

Will definitely make this a new training spot!

Haha, Great place to get in some training time. I like it due to its very safe nature, there are almost always other swimmers in the water, or folks on the street. I have never seen any wild life in the water there. Its a great place to get in some cold water experience in the winter time, BRRRR!
Although the water can at times be kinda 'greasy' and have a petroleum smell but that is the nature of being in the water near all those boats.
I do have a question though, anyone swim in the ocean off the parking lot outside the bay? Looks like a nice long arse stretch of beachline with mild surf conditions?
I live up in Ventura now and swim out of Carpenteria. The mileage is virtually unlimited, your out in open ocean water about a 100 or more yards from shore. We have sting rays, dolphins and great whites we swim with. The sharks are juveniles and have not hurt anyone in recent memory, they just enjoy munching on the sting rays.
2 weeks ago we had a pod of about 15 dolphins swimming around us, pretty awesome yet a little scary. They are pretty damn big when they get up close, lol!
I still like to drive the 80 miles down south to the LB location to meet up with my OC friends a few times a year.
