Hi all. Want to head out to Boerne Lake for ow swim. Looked online but saw no current info so was wondering if anyone knows about algae bloom? Is it there now or....?
Hoping it is all good to go as I need the practice for IM Boulder 70.3.
Any info is greatly appreciated :-)

I've been out there twice. Most recently, last weekend. I didn't notice any algae... Just the cold. -

The Gatorbait Tri, Small, Tiny, and Big Tex Tri's swim are in this Lake and I enjoyed the swim parts. There is a ramp to get out and it is slippery. Otherwise I had good swims at this Lake. Never did a OWS at this Lake in a non organized event. I would definitely have partner or companions go with me. -

Howdy! Boerne Lake is a great place to swim. The Brittons Tri-Force club swims there on Friday afternoons if you want a group to swim with.
If you stick to the half of the lake nearest the dam there's no issue with algae, shallow water, etc. As opposed to the area at the other end of the lake from the dam (dam is to your left if standing on the boat ramp) which is shallower and has algae.
If you swim straight across the lake from the ramp and back I believe its close to 1600 meters, a little short of a mile. The longer swimmers will swim from the ramp along the shore (take a left from the boat ramp) around to along the dam and along the far shore, and then back. I think that can get to around 2 miles, plus you're close to shore the whole time if you're by yourself.
Boats are allowed in the lake, but no motor boats (except trolling motors i think).
If you google Boerne lake water temperature, it'll give you a link to see the water temp.
Enjoy.

There used to be a group swim there on Saturday mornings at 0700 or 0800 when Trisition area was around. I haven't been out there since last year but I would bet the core group of folks still go out there. I would definitely swim with a group out there. There are some boaters and they don't really look for swimmers. Start at the dock, and across and back is 1600 m.
