Join the 700 Mile club or Ultimate 822.7 Mile club 2007
BY: amiine on 2007-03-22 10:12 PM
Hey everyone,
Last year the Bear founded the exclusive 700 mile club which required riding 700 miles during a 30 day period which some of us did a couple of times. (He is currently sponsoring the March 500 mile club on the challenge forum) If I remember correctly other BTers suggested and completed other distances since some might be training for shorter distances or just new to the sport. For that reason this time I am suggesting to have a few different options so more BTers can participate and each shoot for a specific level of membership based on their current goals.
Also since the racing season is upon us and in order to have a more balanced spread for our training I am also proposing the Ultimate 822.7 Mile club which will consist of riding 700 Mi, running 100 Mi and swimming 22.7 Mi (40,000 yds) all on 30 days.
Spring is finally here and I think it is time to officially open up the application process for either the one, only and original 700 Mile club 2007 or the new Ultimate 822.7 mile club and seek to complete the necessary requirements through the month of April to become an official member! These are the different membership levels that any of you can apply for April:
Original 700 Mile club:
· Elite – 700 Miles
· Master – 500 Miles
· Expert – 400 MilesUltimate 822.7 Mile Club:
· Elite – 700 Mi bike, 100 Mi run, 22.7 Mi swim (40,000 yds)
· Master – 500 Mi bike, 75 Mi run. 17 Mi swim (30, 000 yds)
· Expert – 400 Mi bike, 50 Mi run, 11.3 Mi swim (20,000 yds)Each week we’ll revise the progress of each of the applicants to keep an accurate track in order to evaluate at the end of the term who meet the requirements and qualify for their membership. What else will you receive besides becoming an honorable member of this exclusive club, well, nothing really but most likely your improvement will make you faster during the summer
Anyway, we still have 9 days before April 1st, but I want to know who might want to come out and play so I can work on the details and later on post it on the appropriate forum… I know Bear is IN (right?) who else???

Can you do one level down from those called Veteran (or whatever?) Not sure if I'm up for 400 right now, but 300 might be doable for April. I might be interested in the Ultimate club as well - but I NEED to base the running on time not mileage as I am ultra slow.
Any possibility of those types of options?

Seeing as how biking is pretty much all that I'm doing right now, put me down for 400 for April.

Actually, this would be the third annual 700 Club.
Yeah I'm in, might even shoot for a thousand. At a minimum, I'll do the 822.7 all on the bike. Running 100 might be ramping up a little too soon for me, though, as I've only been back running for two weeks, and am still tentative and cautious. As far as swimming the 40K, what's the point?

It'll have to wait until after Boston ........... and probably until the Summer for me. Once I'm into my IM training I'll be up for it!

Ultimate Expert is very intriguing to me. Sounds like a balance jumpstart to some volume.

Giddyup. I'm in for Ultimate 822.7 Mile Club:
· Master – 500 Mi bike, 75 Mi run. 17 Mi swim (30, 000 yds)Can I run it from march 26 to april 26th? I've got St. A's on the 29th, which I'm going to taper for, and really need the volume earlier than April. I might have to pop down a level otherrwise...

One thing I forgot to add on the OP and as I coach I must point out. The idea behind these challenges is not only to cram LOTS of mileage just for the sake of it. (haygosl count another one
) You should evaluate how a particular challenge fits within your long term plan and also evaluate whether the distance(s) is achievable or not. Don’t go from riding 100 Mi to 400 Mi a month; remember that the whole point of training is to gradually build up our volume/frequency so we can continue our training day after day. Please keep that in mind and use it to motivate yourself to push a bit harder of what you normal would but no so much that you are really over doing it.
We can add one last extra membership level:
Original 700 Mile Club
· Elite – 700Mi
· Master – 500Mi
· Expert – 400Mi
· Veteran – 300MiUltimate 822.7 Mile club
· Elite – 700Mi B, 100Mi R, 22.7Mi S (40,000 yds)
· Master – 500Mi B, 75Mi R, 17Mi S (30,000 yds)
· Expert – 400Mi B, 50Mi, R, 11.3Mi S (20,000 yds)
· Veteran – 300Mi B, 40 Mi R, 8.52MI S (15,000 yds)Who else want to play?

No seriously, April 1 starts my 20 week HIM plan but I'm combining that w/ my current Half Marry plan for the next 4 weeks so I'm not sure what my totals are going to look like. I'll enjoy keeping tabs on you guys tho!

Based on March, I have Ultimate Veteran status covered, so I'll stretch for Ultimate Expert for April. -
