How close is too close
BY: Tell3131 on 2007-05-08 2:36 PM
I am thinking of getting a new bike before IMCDA. I am riding a Cervelo P2SL and like it, but I would like an all carbon bike. So if I got a new tri bike now, would that be a horrible thing? I would get fitted and measured at the bike store and it would be dialed in just right. .
So my question is it too close now to get one?
How about the first of June?
I imagine the sooner the better. .huh? -

The sooner the better, obviously. But why not just wait? You're already riding a great bike that you know fits. The carbon's not going to make the 112mi any easier. -

I have thought of that. . .maybe that is the way to go. I guess I just have it in my head that the bike I am on isn't fitted to me (which is never has been) and I would just like to know going into IMCDA that I am on a bike that is fitted to me.
I could pay for a fitting but then I am just afraid they will say you need to switch this and this and this out and end up paying $1000 for parts and such and realize I just should of went and got a new bike that was fitted. ???
Maybe I am thinking too much about it. -

Are you comfortable on the bike you have? Personally for me it's too soon to switch but you have to go with what works for you.

It is ok. I feel a bit stretched out at times. . . I will probably get a fitting done and if they can adjust my current bike without any big modifications just stick with that. .
I guess it really is just a decision I have to make. In the end 112 miles is 112 miles, but I would like to be as comfortable as possible during that loooong time frame. -

I had a Felt F70 and switched to an Argon 18 about 3 weeks before IMAZ. I did tri bike transport so I only got about 2 weeks on my new bike before the race. Thats a lot bigger difference going from road to tri then from old tri to new tri. I say go for it, besides new bikes are cool. -

If I check the Lotto ticket in my wallet tonight, and it's worth some $$$, then I'm buying a new P3C before CDA (in my dreams).
Seriously though, I am thinking about buyin some new race wheels and breaking them in, in time for the race (ZIPP 606 Clydesdales).
Awwwwww........the call of the new toys......is very, very strong......

I know know. . I am not bragging, or tyring to be "I have a HUGE problem, should I get the P3C or the Guru Crono"
I would have to sell my other bike and cut back on spending in other areas. . It isn't like I am adding to the stable and trying to start my own bike shop. . . Although that is a dream of mine.
I was just trying to get a feel for what people thought about switching out bikes this close to a big race (survival test).
Thanks for the responses though, I do like to hear what everyone has to say. -

You should get the race wheels. The Zipps are awesome!
