Aero Helmet Recommendation?

Can anyone guide me toward a good aero helmet? Looking at Louis G. or Giro. Would like it to be race legal and useful for longer events.
Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Last I heard the Giro still wasn't CSPC compliant.

is it available yet? the last i heard it wasn't going to be available (other then sposored athletes) until august.

i have a louis garneau rocket and like it a lot.

I have the Rudy Project Syton. It is not the ultra-aero style like the Giro or LG, but it gets the job done with a little more ventilation.

Ditto on the Syton (I have the Syton Open). Really no heat difference from my road helmet.

I had a LG Prologue, and I never raced in it. It didn't fot me very well, and the RP fits me perfectly.

Which gets me to another point -- get the helmet that fits you best.

It is built like a actual helmet and has a ventilation system that draws air through and over the top of your head to reduce the heat that builds up in Aero helmets. If I didn't have that one... I'd have gone with the Rudy Project.

I have the L.G. Rocket. My coach and a few friends have the Spiuk. It's very cool but my issue with is is that the point sits fairly high above your back while the Rocket, when you are in a solid aero position, literally sits on your back. It not only makes you very slippery in the wind but is a great tell that you are in a good position as you van feel it, especially the tip.

I'll second (or third) the LG Rocket (kind of appropriate right?). Wore it for Gulf Coast and didn't have any issues in the heat. Not sure if I am going to wear it for IMLOU yet, it can get kind of squirrley in crosswinds and it totally defeats the purpose if you don't keep your head up the entire time.

Actually, the idea that an aero helmet loses all aero advantage if you drop your head has been challenged by those clever MIT wind tunnel dudes. Due to the decreased ammount of ventilation of an aero helmet vs. a more traditional helmet, the aero advatntage is still evident, regardless of head position.

Ok, um, sorry guys for such a question, but, I guess I always thought that the disc wheels and aero helmets were for the podium crowd and not so much used for "beginning triathletes". Does it make such a difference that a age grouping middle of the pack kinda guy like me can benefit from it without looking like a doof?

Only if you want to be faster...I have both and I'm now faster.

This may be true, but I still don't think I am going to wear it for IMLOU. I wore it on a test ride the other day and my neck was killing me by the end. Much more so than with my Bell Sweep that I normally ride in. I will test it again this weekend on my last long brick before the race.

Definitely go with comfort first for an IM. But, FWIW, I wore the Rocket at LP and was fine. Aero helmets were very prevelant among the lead riders.
