Who's in for The Cowtown? I'm running the half. Michele is running the 10k. Just a little training race leading up to the Dallas RnR. -

I'm bummed out. I couldn't run last year so I missed the first medal. I might still buy the $100 contributor medal for '09.

Running the half.
Unfortunately my friend can't join me like last year... she has fallen ill... so I'll run extra fast for her.

I'm there for the half again. Can't miss out on another piece of the medal.
Plus, I have a score to settle with the race that broke my back. (Literally.)

Half for me! Not trained up for it, so will no doubt be a run/walk thing. Yes, I 'm a sucker for the finisher's medal and my friend talked me into it. Have fun everyone....let's hope it's not snowing again...too much -

I thought the temps were PERFECT last year!I'll be doing the half this year... purely to have fun. I'm not trained to "race" against myself or others, so I'm just going to enjoy my birthday weekend with a little 13.1 mile run...

I thought the temps were PERFECT last year!30 degrees with 30 mile per hour winds...we have a VERY differnt idea about perfect running weather
Actually, after the first few miles it did get quite comfortable but the first few over the river intothe wimd were so cold. I remember having my hands balled up in my gloves and them still being numb!

I put 40 degrees on my RR but then again I was out there almost 5 hours doing the full marathon, so I'm sure it warmed up some in those 5 hours. I do remember it being "chilly" while I was waiting for the start, but once I started moving I didn't notice. I wore shorts (my current avatar is from that race) and I remember guys running shirtless...
I remember some wind, but not 30mph. then again I live in Kansas so anything under 15mph is a rarity... maybe I'm just used to the wind.
I do think 40 degrees is about perfect to run long... and I normally hate cold weather -

I am right there with you! My hands were FROZEN and so were my feet!
I had many layers of clothing on... covered from head to toe... I even wore my winter jacket for cycling (a wind stopper) and I never once got too hot.
Oh yeah, the weather sucked last year and it was really windy!

tri-ingnotsohard - 2010-02-17 8:55 AM OK - Davidb, I'll bite. How did you break your back running at Cowtown? Here's the race report: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=148706
Short story: Pain started around mile 5 and kept getting worse. Being stubbon (and wanting that medal), kept going. By mile 10, I couldn't walk. I hobbled to the finish in a lot of pain and almost didn't make it from the car into my house after getting myself home. A couple of MRIs revealed an iliosacral fracture. (that section where the spine connects with the pelvis) I was out of commission for three months recovering from it.
Never did figure out a root cause, as I don't really fit the profile for this sort of stress fracture.
