Ok - who is in and who is ready for the hottest and hardest 1/2 IM around? :-) -

I am still on the fence on whether or not I am going out there again this year. Probably so, Mike and Marti put on a great race. It is a tough hombre on the bike though. But fun is it without a bit of a challenge?

I was all set for this one, but the cost is a bit too much for me.
$205 for a 1/2 IM!!
IronStar will be my first 1/2.

I'm all set to go on this one. Not sure why I decided it would be a good first half.
Gulp.
Now someone just tell me where I can find hills in Dallas that are somewhat comprable to the ones I'll encounter in Lubbock

Sebastian,
There is a hill on Windhaven in Plano that is comparable in grade to BSLT. But, it's short. I use it for hill repeats, both running and cycling.

I've ridden Windhaven before; do you know what grade it is? Is it about as steep as anything I'll find in BSLT just shorter? -

Long drive. Pretty close to wife's due date. However looking at all other HIM's in the area, I am definitely in the mood to be talked into this.
Carry on... -

mikericci - 2006-03-06 5:26 PM Ok - who is in and who is ready for the hottest and hardest 1/2 IM around? :-)I'm in and looking forward to it. I did BSLT last year. It was my first HIM. I'm hoping to improve my time over last year. It was a ton of fun. Met lots of BT'ers there.
You are correct about hot! I would also add dry. For those who haven't been to this part of the USA, it's dry, dry, don't sweat dry. Three words of advice: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Anyone on the fence should definitely go for it! FABULOUS race!
I'm IN and this will be my third year running. Fond memories...it was my very first triathlon EVER!
The difference this year is I'll actually have HILLS to train on AND be living at the same altitude as the course! Yeah! Bring it on!
Mike, will I be ready????

I'm in -- my first HIM. The hills look a bit daunting. Anyone able to compare the BSLT hills to some places in/around Austin? (Please Please Please don't say 360.)

Yes I am in. I did Buffman and squeaky last year(same place and put on by same people but its an Olympic distance) and they put on a great(dare i say perfect?) race. Plus they split the clydesdalr division into over and under 40. Most races wont do that. It gives slow athletes like me a better chance of getting bragging rights. Sayin I made top 10 is much better sounding than top 35. Godd luck to all! -

I'm in! Third time to do this race although not consecutively. It's a tough one, but it's addicting and fun.

I'm in, I'm paid up and reserved my hotel room LAST YEAR. Wouldn't miss a race put on by M&M Greer.
Cody mentioned earlier about the Buffman & Squeaky Oly distance race, May 21st. If you can swing it you should really consider making this one part of your season, it is a great primer for Buff Springs!
As far as training for those hills, I'm golden in Rio Rancho. For the guy in Dallas, I used to live out in Duncanville and there are some hills to ride out in the Duncanville/Cedar Hill area towards Joe Pool Lake, also a great place to get in your open water swimming and, lucky you, the Dallas Nature Center is right out there and you can run hills on dirt trail. To get distance you'll need to do laps around the nature center but I promise legs of iron by the time Buff Springs rolls around.

I'm in! 3rd HIM and after Texas Tri, I should be ready to hit some more hills.
Good training in the Austin area seems to be the ATC or J&A rides on Saturdays with a 5-6 mile brick to Stafford Hills and back.

Yep, I did too.
I'd love to do Buffman and Squeaky to get to know the course, but it's the week before Cap Texas and it's sort of a far drive from Dallas. -

I'd love to do Buffman and Squeaky to get to know the course, but it's the week before Cap Texas and it's sort of a far drive from Dallas. But it's worth it...you do five of the eight bike hills...and the swim start area is definitely something to experience once....
