This will be my first official Ironman 70.3 Can't wait for all the M-dot merchandise. How were the temperatures last year?

Last year was a bit sunny/hot on the end of the ride because of a lack of clouds. I should be there.

At the Mooseman and Vineman this year it was super hot. My plan for next year is to do most of my running around lunch time when it's hottest to be better prepared for hot racing conditions.

Wilhelm - 2008-12-05 2:11 PM This will be my first official Ironman 70.3 Can't wait for all the M-dot merchandise. How were the temperatures last year?Swim and bike were fine. The run was hot. Not brutal hot, but reasonably hot: 85+ degrees and humid.

Wilhelm - 2008-12-09 8:39 AM Or is there something else I could do?Wear multiple layers once a week while running. This will help your body acclimate to running in heat.

Wilhelm - 2008-12-05 1:11 PM This will be my first official Ironman 70.3 Can't wait for all the M-dot merchandise. How were the temperatures last year?As everyone else said, the run was hot but there was enough shade on good portions of it. Also, the run and bike course was hillier than I planned.

Question about RI ironman, when you're finished with your swim and bike then run to providence, how does your wetsuit and stuff get back to providence from narragansett? Do you have to pick it up after, or do they collect your stuff and bring it somewhere?
Sorry just wonderign never did a triathlon with different location transitions. -

They ran a pretty smooth operation last year with the clean transitions. Here is the deal...they give you three bags: run, bike and wetsuit. When you get out of the water the wetsuit goes in the wetsuit bag (has your number on it), bag stays at transition with whatever was in your bike bag. Both bags go to the finish line (where T2 is). Run bag goes to T2 the day before. After you are done with the race go get your wettie bag and your bike bag. Done.

I'm in, too. It'll be the first HIM for me. Can't wait. We're probably going to drive up Friday. It sounded like check in on Saturday last year was kind of a mess.

Friday was great. There were NO lines and not too many people in the expo. Get there early and you have your choice of bike drop off times. Mid morning is best as people are at the beach already on Saturday. Keep in mind that there are alternate routes to start/T1 rather than the ONE road that every human being in New England takes to Narragansett in the summer.

vm354 and I both live in the relative area so if you need anything ahead of time of have any last minute things let me know.
Also, I plan to drive the bike course and maybe the run course with my 305 once I get it and upload it here if someone hasn't already.

I am in for next year, already bought the registration.
One good tip for out of towners is, if you have a car with someone else to drive it (Wife, girlfriend, husband, or whomever) consider staying the saturday night in Narragansett. This will avoid all of the shuttle bus crap at 3:00 am. Your chauffer just has to drive to Providence after you finish your swim. This worked out well for me last year. I was able to sleep until 4:45 and still got there with plenty of time before the start. Just book your Hotel room Early because they fill up quick that time of year.
Good luck to everyone for training!

I can't emphasize enough for guys and gals who didn't do this course last year -- devote a healthy portion of your time to doing Hill Repeats. Long, Steep, Hill Repeats. The hill a mile into the run is an absolute BEAST. And you have to run up it Twice and Run down it Twice. So make sure in your trainings you devote a good amount of your running time to Uphill and Downhill running. The good news is, aside from one other moderate hill at the very beginning, the rest of the course is flat.
