Just signed up! Racine this year. Madison IM next year. I started the goal on New Years Day 2008. Knew I needed to work through a sprint, olympic, 1/2 marathon, marathon, 70.3 and then full IM. This 70.3 is my last event to get me to 2011 Madison. -

This will be my second tri season and my first 1/2. I went with this venue due to the run through the zoo. If I die I the run, they can just feed me to the lions.
Happy Training. 24 weeks out makes it seem way shorter than 6 months. I guess I better get going on my 18 week plan.

First HIM for me as well. Did the sprint there last year for fun and to check out the course for this year. I will probably head up there a couple of times before to do the bike course and run. -

Howdy - first half for me. I grew up in Racine so I will be embarrassing myself in front of family and friends..lol. Hopefully my altitude training will help me out..probably not..but at least I will be able to drink more afterwars.

Maybe we can organize some "first 1/2 IMers" rides???

Wow, lots of first time HIM'ers. So are you all in it because it's now an IM event or is it the venue? This was my planned year to do an HIM and for me it is one of the closest IM 70.3 events. I've heard great things about the venue.
What are your goals/dreams for this race? Anyone hoping for a Clearwater slot?

I plan on riding the course a few times and would definitely be up for a BT group ride.
This is also my first HIM and indeed, it will only be my second triathlon (I'm planning on doing an Oly in spring). I'm doing it simply because it is the closest 70.3 to Chicago. I had entertained thoughts of doing Steelhead, but that falls on my bday and I figured that if I bonked or performed poorly it would be a pretty rough way to spend a bday.
As for my goals, I am doing this first and foremost to get myself fit. Performance is also a top priority- I will be racing and have a certain time that I will be trying to crack.
Someone mentioned that the run goes through a zoo. I did not know this...if its a hot day, can you imagine having to run through pockets of elephant dung stench?! Seems like a good way to get participants to puke... -

Just signed up for Racine? I have never done this distance? Should I be worried that they ask for your insurance card number? -

Hi numbers!Hi to you Mr.
A little bike accident...that's putting it lightly...no more of those, ok?
For those of you unfamiliar with this race, let me tell you one thing from having done the sprint the last 3 years...
THE WATER IS REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY COLD!!! 2 years ago, it was 56 and last year, it dropped to 53. It feels like glass, but surprisingly, the pain does go away eventually after a few strokes. And I am a huge wuss in the water, so trust me, if I can get through it, I'm sure you all will be fine.
I am REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hoping that the winds shift this year (as that is what I was told controld the water temp) and we get the water temp back to how it was my first year, totally fine, but the 3 foot waves are what made that swim challenging.

1st time here. Couple years of olympics and want to try longer. The race is an hour from home, you can't that.....Zip in, zip out, just like going to Wisconsin.
goals and dreams are to finish.
I would definitely be in for a ride at some point up there! And also am definitely preparing for lake at any temp. -

I'm signed up for this race too. First HIM.
The bike course is a nice ride, I did it a couple of times last summer.
Jumped in the lake new years day... waters fine...
Hoping for a 6hr race... I'll be happy with any time as long as I wake up the next day.

My goal for this race is to finish around 5:45- That's the cut time to qualify for Nationals for my age group. I don't have plans to go to Nationals, jut to get that time. In order to do that I will need to step up my run. My Swim and bike are in pretty good shape to reach the goal.
