Well I will be racing this course for the first time! Excited for the race, and some post race fun. We will be camping on site, as I read it's the thing to do. Is it safe to assume this will be a non-wetsuit race?

ecarder - 2013-01-16 4:22 PMCamping is the way to go. Don't assume it will be non wetsuit. Last year was the first it was not wetsuit legal. The previous four were borderline, but found a way to be wetsuit legal. Stick around, we will set up a few group rides this spring.Well I will be racing this course for the first time! I'm in for my 6th year in a row - if I still live around here (job hunting out of state!).
Great race, great people, great times to be had!

Coming from N Texas....just getting back into triathlons. Pretty excited about getting back to KS -- I once had some BBQ at a place called Famous Dave's I think it was called. Loved it. Is there one in town?

Well after reading a few race reports it sounds like the wind can really be fun! A friend of mine will be coming from Brainerd, MN area and look forward to the race (whatever the conditions are), and some post race fun. Happy training!

If you want real Kansas City BBQ head east about 30 miles and check out Oklahoma Joes in Mission, KS. Everyone has their opinions on favorite BBQ, but that is mine. Anyways, campsite registration opens on Tuesday at 8am CST. Get on it.

Just thinking about it, not sure If I want to pull the camper down for 3 nights from north iowa @7.5 mpg's vs just getting a hotel for one night.

Campsite reservations are open. I am in spot 21 again this year. Just about 100 yards from T2 and the finish line.

I'm in again this year!
Looking forward to the training brick on May 19th (aka the 5150!)
Would anyone happen to know where to find the times that made it to vegas last year by age group? Or, the M 25-29 age group in particular.... (NOT a backdoor brag, I did horrible last year, and wondering if I have any sort of outside shot this year and to make this an "A" race or not)

Not in this year, but will be camping there with my wife who is racing. Wanted to do it again this year, but decided to save a little money and do Rev3 Branson, also doing IM Arizona. However, I am coming up for the Kansas 5150 in May. So I will gladly drink plenty of beer while watching you go by my campsite this year Jon. Good luck.

I am new to the HIM game, looking forward to this race. I am excited, but nervous for this distance.
Any helpful words of wisdom twenty weeks out of things I should be working on, or equipment that is a must have for the race?

jlpete98 - 2013-01-22 8:34 PM I'm in, ready for some training rides!Oh, well if Pete is in, I guess I have to.
Looking forward to the group training rides/runs. We are actually going to run this year rather than crack open the beer coolers prematurely, right?

We will certainly plan some group rides this spring. Patrick, running was always the plan, the beer just always seems to trump it. I blame Pete.

Since this is Week 1 of the 20 Week Plan, it seems like a good time to start checking in...
I'll be coming out from the Denver area, my first trip to Kansas after doing Boulder the last three years. I've heard a lot of great things from folks who've done this race before, and the venue will be a nice change of scenery from the Boulder Reservoir!

I think I'm in. Nothing official though. I'm a little burnt out on the full distance and this one is a driveable distance for me. I'm interested in camping. What's the whole scoop on that? Does the campsite usually fill? -
RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread
BY: joncolbybohnsack on 2013-01-24 1:25 PM
It will fill up. You can view the campsite map on Clinton parks website. I got a primitive spot which gives you two vehicle passes and three tents on your campsite. You will have to get it for at least two nights(Saturday and Sunday night) because you won't be out of your site on Sunday in time. The campsites are all along the run course. It is great for spectators because it will give them a place to set up camp for the day and some spots have trees which is the only place to find shade. Parking can be an issue as well so it gives you two spots up close. I you aren't camping the parking lot is a half mile hike. Call Sheri and she can get you all set up.
