Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread
BY: papson14 on 2011-05-24 11:07 PM
Hey guys this is our official IMTX thread so lets get it started!
This will be my 5th IM and I can honestly say that the two I did in the U.S. with a large BT contingent were way more fun than the two outside of the U.S. with 0 to 1 BT'ers, no offense Mark :)
We've got a year so lets start getting to know each other and figuring things out.

Since I'm bored I'll start things off.
My name is Chris, I'm a former teacher now stay-at-home-Dad (again), 4 kids (6,5,4,3mo), my wife Rowena is a family practice Doc in the Navy which is why we're out here in Okinawa.
We'll be moving to Chicago/Great Lakes area sometime by the end of the year so I'm already worried about the cold weather training then racing in the heat.
Take it easy, I'm off to clean the house so the wife doesn't dock my pay

Thanks for getting this thread started! My name is Aaron, I'm a technology manager for a credit union. This will be my first IM...the heat doesn't worry me since we get just as hot and then hotter here in AZ, but I'm going to have to get creative with the humidity. I'm thinking this justifies a couple trips down to Mexico every month for a couple months before for beach-front humidity training, yes?

Volunteered this year at the finish line and did the on-site registration the next morning. First Ironman for me. I live here in The Woodlands and ride much of the bike route regularly. I look forward to chatting with everyone and hope we get another good turnout.

I'm in. First IM. Done 6-8 sprint's and a 1/4IM but have not raced in 2 yrs, and in the last 2 years have probably ridden my bike 100 miles and run 20. Swim? What is that again? Have worked in the ER for 4 yrs as a tech, just finished nursing school and currently work nights as a nurse in the ER at Memorial Hermann in Houston.
Bring it!

Hey, everyone!
I'm TJ, a dentist, husband, involved father of four (9, 8, 2, and 1 year old)- yes, I train exclusively after kids' bedtime from 7:30 to 10:30ish. I'm from Marietta, GA.
IMTX will be my third IM. I promised my wife I would not do IM St George ever again after almost killing myself this year out there and worrying her to tears. I'll do the heat...just please, no more hills!
I'll be in this thread all year, and look forward to reading all your updates. Speaking of reading, if any of you on here who raced in '10 can throw out tips you learned during your race week ( where you stayed, ate, etc ) I would love to hear them.
Thanks

I saw Keith's response so I may pick up a bottle of wine on the way home or sign up now and not tell her. This race has put me in the dog house with everything I needed ie tubes, shoes, nutrition and um time. well worth it -

I'm Kathleen and signed up for 2012. Like others, I did 2011 and wasn't planning another again for a while. I think I just had too much fun and signed back up. This will be ironman #6.
I live in Austin and moved there from Houston last summer. So that race especially is awesome because I knew sooooo many people from both the Houston and Austin tri/running communities.
I did better than expected at this one, only 5 minutes slower than a big PR I had in Florida. Turns out my florida finish was in the 54th percentile; my tx finish was in the 39th.
The course, spectators, and volunteers were absolutely AWESOME and I'm excited to go back for more. -
