Pre-race routine:
Got up @ 6:00 and popped the morning pills, PBJ, and OJEvent warmup:
25yd Swim to start line and then tired water for 3 minutes.
Swim
Comments:
Not the greatest swim I have had but not the worst also. Up until the first Buoy I was going way to fast and way to hard. HR was 165 and I was beginning to fell out of breathe. I was not used to the wetsuit and I felt restricted and not able to breath in a full breath. I realized if I was going to finish I would have to calm down, recover and get the HR down into the 130-140. So I rolled over and started to back stroke. It took a good 10 minutes for me to get back in control and bu having to do this I lost time. I made it to the first turn and I rolled back over and started to swim. I was relaxed, breathing good and starting to make up some lost ground. The last part of the swim was great. Felt incontrol, was able to sight and swim straight. What would you do differently?:
Not blow up. Better sighting on the first half. I was all over the lake going into the sun. Even with mirror goggles it was hard to see the buoy that you were swimming to.
T1
Comments:
This was a much better T1. I am so impressed with how fast I was able to get out of the DeSoto wetsuit. I didn't start to get the suit off until I got to my bike. There was a steep slippery boat ramp that we had to run up so I held off on taking it off. When I got to my bike another racer next to me was strugling to get his wetsuit off. I got mine off and my sox and shoes on and he was still working on his suit. What would you do differently?:
no problems in T1
Bike
Comments:
I knew there was going to be a big hill but I didn't expect all the little rollers before the big hill. I was able to power up the hills with a good cadence and felt good going into them. The down hills were a blast 46mph on the 4mile section of down hill. Bike computer had me at 19.5 mph avg. and a distance of 26.6 miles. Courses might be a little long. What would you do differently?:
More endurance and speed on the big hill.
T2
Comments:
T2 was smooth. Could have gone a little faster but I finished off the last of the heed in the water bottle just standing there (dumb of me not to run and drink) and then work into a run.
Run
Comments:
Took about 1.5 mile to get into a rythme with the legs. I was able to push the last half with a faster pace. Felt good considering the lack of miles the past few weeks. What would you do differently?:
NEED TO DO BRICKS!!!!
Post race
Warm down:
Not much walked around and got the all my stuff and headed back to the lake to pick up the car. Went to Eagle Island park and hung out on the beach and watch the kids play in the river.
This was my first time doing this race and I really enjoyed the course had a good bike and run segments. What limited your ability to perform faster:
To many Items ,
Run more
Bike more
OW Swim
Bricks
Hills
Weight so the Wetsuit fits betterEvent comments:

It was good to meet you there. I was expecting you to pass me on the bike the whole time. Every time someone passed me I was looking out for the red specialized
-----
I have to hand it Oriolepwr. He is a FFB GENIOUS! I was beaten soundly. What
must I have been thinking?? I really Should have known better. Next time I
might even go ahead and forfeit, rather than take another beatdown like I got
this week. -

Good race. Pictures to boot, nice.
I hear you about getting accustomed to the wetsuit, although it is wonderful, it can feel very restrictive in the shoulders and breathing if you aren't used to it. I agree how well the DeSoto comes off.
Awesome speeds on the bike. Seems like a hilly course should average the same as a flat one at the end, especially with 46 MPH downhills, but it doesn't work that was does it?
I feel your pain on the run. We were on the same train there.
Great race. Good IM prep.
Love the pictures of the kids running after you. That's a keeper.
