Ironman 70.3 Racine
2010-07-18
Racine, Wisconsin
United States
HFP Racing
Triathlon - 1/2 Ironman
Total Time = 4h 39m 16s
Overall Rank = 53/2001
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 3/188
Pre-race routine:
Typing this as I'm stuck in the Atlanta Airport at 2:35 a.m. Gawked at Craig Alexander and the other pros while they got their transition areas ready. Surprised how many top pros were here. Trixie came over to say hello. Intorduce myself to RaytownPete. Chatted a bit with my tri club buddy John who had a much earlier wave than me. Walked to the swim start with BT'ers Tammy (tripletmom01) and TracyV
Swim
Comments:
Thought my time would be faster cuz I was passing people from earlier waves like crazy. Surf got a little rougher second half. Sighting wasn't great but not bad.
T1
Comments:
Long run from water to T area. Decided to take my suit off at waters edge so I'd have the water to lube my legs. If I ran the 200 yds+ to the T area all the water would have dried up and the suit would have been harder to take off....sounds good anyway
Bike
Comments:
I didn't feel like I pushed too hard but I may have cooked it a little too much and paid for it on the run??? But I feel like I rode the correct pace. Temps rose fast
T2
Run
Comments:
Pretty disappointed with this run. Couldn't maintain sub-7 miles in that frickin' heat. Kept stuffing ice down my tri top to try to cool off. I guess I'm glad I was able to keep the focus up and not totally blow up the last 5 miles. Saw a lot of people on a death march.
Post race
Event comments:
Took the Clearwater slot. Mixed feelings about going to the draft-fest but I want to experience the 70.3 World Championships at least once (ate the entry fee when I qualified for Clearwater at Steelhead 70.3 in 2008).

Was good to see you this weekend, Jim. Been way too long. Congrats on a great race and on Clearwater. Now if you can stay off the road long enough to train!
