Pre-race routine:
500 potty stops! Couldn't decide on arm warmers for the race. Most people in shorts and short sleeves. Right before line-up for the start, the owner of the local tri-store (in long tights and long sleeves) advised me "I'd rather roast than freeze!" I agreed. I got the arm warmers on (Thank goodness!)Event warmup:
Many jogs to the bathrooms. Some quick sprints to warm up and get my muscles ready.
Run
Comments:
Kept reminding myself of marathon next week and not to go out too fast (go out too fast all the time anyway, but REALLY had to be mindful of it today)
Mile 1) 6:37 (WOW!) 2) 7:08What would you do differently?:
Buy a pair of GLOVES!
T1
Comments:
My fingers were so cold, I had a hard time getting the feet into the shoes and the helmet buckles. What would you do differently?:
See R1 comment!
Bike
Comments:
3 U-turns. went much too slow on most turns. Tons of curves/corners in the park. Really worked hard on getting back up to speed though. What would you do differently?:
Be more aggressive on turns. I've been a sissy with turns since I crashed the bike in Sept.
T2
Comments:
Fingers still numb. Hard to maneuver to rack bike and get running shoes on.What would you do differently?:
Learn how to jump on/off a moving bike! MY KIDS CAN DO IT AND I CAN'T!!!
Run
Comments:
Legs were kind of numb. First mile was on autopilot. I couldn't have slowed down or sped up if I wanted to. Started passing some guys and after mile 1 knew there were at least two ladies who could pour it on and beat me, but didn't know how far back they were. Started pushing the pace at about 1 1/2 miles (when my legs started working again). Got'em both!
Mile 1) 7:20 2) 7:12 (negative split! I never do that!)What would you do differently?:
Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:
Got the warm'ups on ASAP and put my bike away just to move and keep warm. Some stretching as well. Kept walking. What limited your ability to perform faster:
Cold, and didn't want to do too much before next week's marathon.Event comments:
No such thing as a course being too easy!
