Swim
Comments:
Overall, swim felt pretty good. No wetsuit, water was 80 F. I managed to keep the freestyle going pretty consistently which was the main goal.
Early was rough with so many bodies. Eventually was able to break out a bit. What would you do differently?:
Not much, I was pretty happy with this swim.
T1
Comments:
Long run from water to transition. I wasted a lot of time putting on a shirt after the swim. 6th in age group, 67th overall. What would you do differently?:
Wear a tri-suit and don't hassle with separate shirt. Practice T1 more.
Bike
Comments:
Felt great for the first 11 miles or so... then things got rough. I started feeling some knee pain (I may need a bike fit). Also my right hand and right foot both were going numb. New for the foot, not so unusual in the hand. But the worst was after 11 miles, the bike just got HARD. Legs were burning and I just couldn't maintain the pace. What would you do differently?:
Train harder on straight roads, less on curvy paths.
T2
Comments:
Very happy with T2, 4th in age group, 30th overall.
Run
Comments:
The run was decent for me... I intentionally didn't try to push it too hard on this, partially because the bike was hard, partially because my main goal for the race was to finish and stay healthy. That said, I was shooting for mid-10 minute mile and got it. A LOT of chafing under my arms from this shirt. What would you do differently?:
Train for speed. :-) Wear a tri-suit and body glide to address chafing.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:
First time (in 15 years) finisher! I was pushing hard but not too hard. Still need to build my body's strength and capacity.Event comments:
I was very happy with the race and organization! With one minor exception on the run, every turn and critical point was well marked, but even in that one spot a volunteer was present to assist with direction. Good recovery snacks available, chip timing was nice, and volunteers were great! I talked a few others into joining the race so it was a good social experience.
