Splash Through the Silly Season December Swim Challenge
BY: kaqphin on 2007-11-26 5:45 PM
Keep yourself active through the holiday season with the Silly Season Swim Challenge. It will be fun, supportive, a great way to meet other BTers and keep yourself on track with all the holiday season celebrations!
Joining is simple, just post your intention to participate below…Then…work out the total time or distance (depending on your training schedule) you are going to swim between 1 - 31 December
If you love to swim, hate to swim or just need a reason to get wet, this challenge and the team support will keep your motivation going through the silly season!!!
This will be a TEAM event with the teams assigned at random and themed along the holidays, however, team requests will be honoured wherever possible.
Donto or I will announce the team rosters by at the end of the week and as with other challenges friendly banter will be encouraged BUT dont forget to back it up with action!!!
Most importantly this is meant to be FUN!!! So enjoy, encourage, inspire your team mates and have FUN!!!!
The Challenge Rules:
1. Teams will be assigned at random but any special requests will be honoured
2. Team captains will be determined by each of the individual teams and Donto will supply a spreadsheet to track your teams totals
2. Initial team line ups will be posted the end of this week (or earlier depending on interest.) Late additions will of course be more than welcome! (until December 7)
3. The winning team will be determined but the overall % of goal achieved by the team. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the number of team members who reached their own individual goal. (if multiple teams reach 100% then they all win)
4. Individuals who achieve more than their committed goal will not have these additional swims counted in the first 3 weeks of the challenge (so increase your goal!!!)
EXCEPTION: In the final week of the challenge team members may exceed 100% (up to 120% max,) and use their additional data to assist team members who are struggling to reach their goal
5. Swimming in a pool, drilling, races and OWS all count. Open water swims should be measured by a GPS type of device, Goggle Earth methods (BT route tracker), or by a sponsoring swim race.
6. Team members will be required to post/PM their weekly results with their team leader each Monday with team leaders sending me their team results by Monday PM so I can try and get all tracking online Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (USA time of course!)
7. In the event of longterm illness or injury team members can withdraw from the challenge
8. I will maintain a team leaders thread for any issues that may arise and to keep everyone up to date with any information or queries
9. All training must be logged in your training log, if its not there it didnt happen! (Im trusting everyone to log their training honestly)
11. Distance/times swum in races count as part of your monthly total
Other details:
For reporting the weeks will run as follows:
Week 1: Dec 1-9
Week 2: Dec 10 – 16
Week 3: Dec 17-23
Week 4: Dec 24-31
It is up to the team captains to determine how they wish to collect their teams totals.Smack talking/sledging/banter is encouraged. Please don’t take the smack talking personal. If you find yourself feeling like you’ve been slighted, have a cookie then post a comeback or just say something like “You’re a booger ha!” You’ll get cheers for being a good sport. Or go for a swim and cool off.
Most importantly this is meant to be FUN!!! So enjoy, encourage, inspire! This is about you reaching your goals and improving your swimming while staying on track through the holidays!!
Have fun!
Donto and Cat

I'm in for 15,000 yards. Since I love to swim, this is awesome...although I really don't need an incentive to hop in and grind out the laps. Still these challenges are a blast.
I'll take any team, although try not to throw me in with the crazies from that prolific they who shall not be named mayhem...I don't log on often enough to keep up with them! I have training to do after all!

What about kicking drills? Do they count as "drills"? Just wondering. Thanks!

Hey, we train! (o.k., don't make me say it...12,350 yds swimming, 3.5 hours on the bike/trainer, 10.5 hours of running [67 miles for the month], we can train and post at the same time. It's a rare acquired skill
).
Cat, you know I'm in. Any team is fine. Even a team other than the Twisnibbins (gasp!).

Easy, no hating allowed, or is that jealousy? Thank you by the way we are some what crazy. We can talk like crazy and still get a tri and a 1/2 mary in on the same month. Our team rocked!
Ok with that said, Cat I'm in for 12,000 meters! Yes put me on another crazy and motivational team just like in November.

I am down for 12000yds. This is my first challenge and I have done two sprint tri's, so I am still a newbie. I would not be opposed to a newbie team, but whatever works, works.
