Tour De France Challenge - the 7th Edition
BY: kaqphin on 2013-06-20 12:38 AM
Riding a bike in July? Any bike at all? (Road bike, mountain bike, exercise bike, spin bike, unicycle, maybe a paddleboat?)
Then sign up below for the Seventh Tour De France Challenge from June 29 - 21 July 2013
The perfect fit for newbies and veterans alike... all you have to do is work out the number of bike sessions (tour stages) you are going to ride between June 29 - 21 July 2013 AND either a distance OR time goal for the 23 day time period.
Teams will be based on the 2013 Tour De France peloton and be announced before the event.. then you can spend a glorious 3 weeks riding to your own grand tour glory!
You can request a favourite team but lineups will be balanced so first in best dressed so to speak. If you have a second preference let me know that when you sign up.
So.. what are you waiting for? Sign up for the seventh annual Tour De France Challenge here on BT by hitting reply to this message!!!
Super Cat
Challenge Rules:
1. The winning team will be determined by the overall % of goal amount of stages and % of distance/time achieved by the team. (each goal counts for 50% of your overall goal achieved)
2. Riders must complete a minimum of 15 minutes ride time per session for the stage to be counted against their committed stages.
3. Goals are capped at 100% - you can INCREASE your goal at any time
4. If your commute (one way) is less than 15 minutes... then you can combine the two commutes as one stage for the purposes of this tour. If you wish for each of your bike commutes to count as two stages (and they are longer than 15 minutes) then you should log them as two separate rides in your training log.
5. You can ride more than once on one day if you wish to, just make sure that they are logged as separate rides in your log.
6. Stages must be logged in the riders BT logs for verification
8. If you have a temporary set back such as an illness (i.e a cold) then I will be using the following equation to calculate your goal reduction (if required). Total Goal/23 days (of the challenge) * number of days out of action = goal reduction for the challenge.
9. 24 hour BAN (code of silence) on discussing action from the Tour in your team thread. This applies (basically) from when one stage starts to when the next stage finishes... (I will be posting reminders on this regularly)
10. Team leaders will be nominated by each team and will be responsible for reminding team members to log their progress in google spreadsheets and leading the cheer-leading to help everyone reach their goals.
Friendly banter and sledging is encouraged, pledging team allegiance through signature lines, log titles and avatars is also encouraged.

First time doing this but intrigued enough, and the TdF lines up with Week 2 of my HIM training plan - so i'm going to use those times/distances for my goals
going for 13 days and a total of 225 miles (about 17.3 miles a stage) - since I tend to neglect my cycling in the training. -

IM IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll figure out stages based on my travel time and race (gulp) that I am not trained up for, factoring in my new MT Bike that will be here, hopefully this weekend.
I wanna be on a team with Yanti. It has been a while.... like last TdF!

I will be in marathon training mode during TdF but cannot resist this challenge. I will openly admit that my bike riding will be very limited because of the marathon focus.

OK, I'm in. I'm doing a bike focus right now, so it's perfect.
As much as I, too, would like to be on Yanti's team, I realize that we all can't be on her team:/ (Yanti, I hope you're feelin the luv right now.xo)
I don't know enough to request a team (other than Yanti's *sigh*), so I'll be happy wherever you think I should be.
Goals: 15 days, 450 miles.

I should probably sign up again! Is anyone riding Cannondale this year? With my new bike, I feel like I should be on that team.

I'll give this a go, I'm drifting with no purpose since doing IM OZ last month so this is just what I need!
I'm trying to get some Sufferfest time done on the trainer so I'll stick to mostly 1 hour rides and do one Sufferfest per TdF stage.....ouch! Orica Greenedge would be good for me, I ride a Scott Foil. I'm hoping some of my MG will join me too.

I *think* I am interested but am a little unsure about the rules. Do we pick both the # of sessions AND total distance, or one or the other?

There are 21 Stages in the Tour De France. You pick how many rides / stages you will do over those 21 stages (June 29th - July 21st) Once you know how many bike days / stages you will do, then you decide what your total miles or hours you will do for the total of those stages. Example: You will do 200 miles and 10 stages (aver. of 20 miles per stage), or 10 hours and 10 stages (aver. 1 hour per stage) you do not have to do the average, you just have to meet the total number of 15 plus minute rides for the number of stages you select and the total distance or hours. Hopefully that helped then again I might have confused you more -

Don't get too excited, my only goal is to finish within the time limits and not get pulled! I can ride 100 miles on the road on a whim if I have the time. in the mountains on the trails though...never even attempted it before, my longest MTB ride is like 70 miles or so. It's going to be a long day!
