PUSH UPS AND ABS CHALLENGE FOR DECEMBER!!
BY: Tri Take Me Away on 2007-11-29 10:34 AM
This is a simple one, people. December is a crazy month for all of us, so let's do this basic challenge that never requires a trip to the gym and will only take a few minutes of your time a day.
The purpose of this challenge is to get you doing push ups and ab work on a regular basis. Push ups are a challenge for many of us - I have been working on it for about 6 weeks and I can finally do 5-10 real pushups at a time!! As for abs, I have found that nothing gets me fitting into my skinny jeans better than some consistent ab work.
I propose for this challenge:
Set a benchmark for yourself. How many pushups can you do right now? If none, then start with knee pushups or pushups on the stairs.
The challenge: Every day, or however many days a week you prefer, do that number of pushups 3 times a day. THEN, every week your number goes up. For myself, I am at 10 pushups in one set. So I will do 10 pushups 3 times a day and next week will work up to 15, then 20, then 25 pushups three times a day for the final week!! Woohoo!!For abs, I can easily do 100 crunches in one set, so my goal would be 100 crunches, 3 times a day, for the first week, then by the last week I will be up to 200 crunches, three times a day. I encourage all of you to find a core routine, too, and commit to that 2-3 times a week. I love the Around the World routine that you can find on BT here . An example of an ab challenge would be "I commit to doing 100 crunches 3 times a week and a core routine (20 reps of each exercise)2 times a week, going to 200 crunches 3 times a week and 40 reps each on core routine by the end of the month."
That is my proposal BUT if you just want to say "I will do 20 pushups a day and 100 crunches aday for December" that is totally cool! Just as long as you are challenging yourself and getting stronger!
Set your benchmarks, set a goal, and let's get started this weekend!

I guess I should state my goals:
Push ups:
10 pushups, 3 times a day, adding 5 per set per week, ending at 25 pushups per set by month's end!!!Abs:
100 crunches 3 times a day!!! Moving up 25 per set each week to end at 200 crunches 3 times a day by month's end! Also, a core routine at least twice a week.

Ok, I'll start with:
PU: 20 per set, 3x day, ending with 40 per set by month end.
SU: 100 3x day, ending with 200 per set 3x day.
I might reevaluate the pushups by month in. I hope I progress to more than that!

OK I'm in.
I am a pushup/situp freak already so...hmmm...
12/1: 25pushups 3x/day, 3 days/week AND 20 crunches 3x/day 3 days/week.
12/31: 50pushups 3xday, 4 days/week AND 30 crunches 3x/day 4 days/week.
As an added bonus, just cuz I'm crazy like that, on 12/31, I will do 300 pushups and 300 crunches...even though I will have run (and possibly won) a 50K the day before.
That oughta get afford me enough calorie deficit to drink heavily on NYE dontcha think???

I'm down for this.
My target is:
10 pushups/3x per day, 5 days per week
25 bicycle crunches/3x per day, 5 days per weekIncreasing 10% per week.
I'll put a chart of my 10% in my Short Term goals for easy reference.

Okay .. I'm in too. Currently I can only do 5 real pushups then can do 25 more on my knees
5x per week -push-ups: 5 real/25 knees per set, 3x day, I will try and add more "real" ones as I go ending with 30 per set by month end but with more REAL pushups than knees!
5x per week crunches: 100 3x day, ending with 150 per set 3x day.
2 x per week Around the World (that's what I do now anyway at the gym)
It will be like being back in boot camp! Minus the squats and other tortures!

I'll jump in on this one, I'll need something to keep me from going nuts after finishing my marathon... although that's already a short trip as it is. Real pushups aren't hard for me, as long as I keep the sets of short duration.
Week 1: 25 pushups/200 crunches 2x 4 days per week
Week 2: 27/225 2x 4 days per week
Week 3: 29/250 2x 4 days per week
Week 4: 31/275 2x 4 days per week
I'm big fan of body weight bearing exercise. Going/belonging to a gym is a PITA, IMHO. I'm not going to do this daily, as I've found my body responds/recovers better if you give it some rest for various kinds of exercise. I think its also important to do the exercises *correctly* and with good form - reduces injury and also will ultimately make you stronger.
If I had a chin bar somewhere (well, there IS a tree out front I could use) I would toss in pullups as well. Right now, I can only do four (cursing my cyclist T-Rex arms).

Alright....
30 pushups 3 X per day 5 day a week 50 crunches 3 X per day 5 days per week.
Will increase by 5 per set per week pushups and 10 per set per week crunches.
I will also add Pullups into the mix somehow

Sounds like a great challenge!
Right now, I can only do pushups on my knees (so I really need to do this one ). My pushup goal will be 10 (knees) 2x per day 3 days per week at the beginning of the month. By the end of the month, I would like to be able to do double that for the same interval and, hopefully, 5 real pushups.
For crunches, I can do about 50, so I'll do 50 2x per day 3 days per week. By the end of the month, 100 2x/day 3/week.
I have a core routine that I want to do at least once per week.

OH JEEZ. I'm CrossFit freak over here and I look like a slacker compared to everyone's goals. I think I'm gonna have to reconsider. Maybe I set my goals too easy. I mean, I do about 600 pushups a week anyway.
OK...here goes...
12/1 - 25 pushups 3x/day, 4 days/week AND 50 crunches 3x/day 4 days/week
12/31 - 35 pushups 4x/day, 5 days/week AND 100 crunches 4x/day 5 days/week
I'll up my 12/31 promise to 400 pushups and 500 crunches. There. Now I can't sandbag this challenge.OH YEAH...I forgot...is there gonna be a "keeping track" system on this??? Spreadsheet? I am officially NOT volunteering to do this, I've had enough with the other challenge!!

YEAH! I was wondering if anybody else thought of stuff like this as I do.
2,000 push-ups
2,000 crunches/sit-ups in Dec. That's 100 of each per day, 5 days a week, 4 weeks. Gives me some off days plus time to build up to 100 [not sure I can do that many push-ups in a single set right now] -

I can do 10 push ups with the last two struggling....use to do 12 a day on a constant basis but never added so lets try this. I can even pop down at the toystore during the rush and get me a set in!
Abs I never really count I just do a routine so will count them. Probably not quite 100 but maybe close. So will try for 100. Might mix in the ab slide, bosu drills etc but will get 100 per set....adding on 25 per week
So I will go for the same you TTMA
PU 10 per set 3 times add 5 per week ending with 25 per set 3 times a day
SU 100 per set 3 times adding 25 per set each week ending with 200 3 times a day! WHOOH.......again I can do these at work. :-)

I am in.. I will set my goals tomorrow. Right now the starting point though is what I am currently doing
2x15 push ups 3x's a week, we'll go for at least 2x20 3x's a week, or 3x15 may be good to..hmm
for core I do that three times to thanks to the other challenge, that will still be 3x's a week, but I change it up to not get bored with just crunches
