Nov 15-Dec 15 "Swim Speed Secrets" Book Club
BY: switch on 2013-09-05 10:57 AM
I'm gonna do a little reading to prepare for next season, and I was thinking there might be a few of you who'd like to join me. I'm imagining a book a month for three months. You can do all three or pick and choose. I'm hoping there might even be a few of you who will stop by for discussions who have already read these books and applied their principles. Maybe we'll even get a coach or two to stop by and offer some insight once and a while :)
The schedule:
September 15-October 15: Daniel's Running Formula
October 15-November 15: The Triathlete's Guide to Training with Power
November 15-December 15:Swim Speed Secrets
Who's in?

It looks like this is shaping up to be a good group!
A couple of very experienced swimmers too--nice :)

I'll play. I could always use some knowledge in how to make my swimming faster.

Sign me up!
I'm reading the book now (more than half-way through it) and WOW...I only wish I'd bought it sooner (like last year when all I could do was swim but I didn't because I was frustrated!!). I may not be done with it by the 15th to start the workouts, but I'll do my best to get as close as possible.
Sweet timing! Thanks!

Hmmmm, if there's an ebook version of this, I'll join. Will have to search tonight when I'm on a computer that doesn't block everything!

It's waterproofed, so that may be why no Kindle version.
I've read through a bunch of the book and dang,..some interesting stuff. Now if I ever drag myself back to the pool...

I saw that....but I think Kindle books don't work on Nooks. I'm hoping to find an ePub version if they've made one (or something to convert the Kindle format to something readable by Nook).

I think I worded my post poorly. We'll start reading the book on November 15th and we'll also start doing the workouts then too, for whoever wants to. Of course, if you want to read the book ahead of time, you totally should! For "book club" purposes we will just try to divide it into fourths for framing discussion over the month. Does that make sense?

Ah, OK, good to know.
This means that now I'm back to being the 'over-achiever' student who is ahead of the class. Phew! ;-)

I will play along, but I'm going to be a couple of weeks behind. Need to rest up from IMFL, plus I'm getting the requisite IM tattoo, so I can't get in the water for a couple of weeks. -

I'll follow along. I bought the book around a month ago and so I've been working on many of the drills already. I'm also looking for a way to improve my front CRAWL (emphasis on the crawl). -

I did another swim tonight. It's feeling quite a bit better. One thing I'm wondering about is the S sweep. It seems like she recommends sweeping the arm out wide looking for still water during the grab and then bringing it into the hip in a curve. Am I reading that right? It seems counterproductive to be pushing your hand out to the side when you should be moving it back to gain momentum.
The second thing I have a problem with is keeping my right elbow high. I breath every stroke on my left side and I rotate my body more while I'm trying to get a breath which forces my right elbow down further. Any suggestions?
