Crappy Weather Winter Challenge
BY: wgraves7582 on 2008-10-21 9:32 AM
Got here on the tail end this past winter and was wondering when these start up again. I know we are looking for snow showers and 32 degrees in the morning and the junk is not too far behind.
Looking forward to some hard core winter training - and for those of you who think 50 degrees is winter training look elsewhere
(jk) - We are talking snow, rain, wind, cold, hail, sleet - stuff that scares Newman enough to hire Jerry as a substitute mail carrier!
Bring it on mother nature!

I am so in on this again this year. Yeah we may see our first "snow showers" here next week
But hey it can only make us that much stronger come spring right?

I'm caught up in a dream, I'm goin to wish for it all. No one's gonna tell me how, cause this is my dream now. I'm caught up in what seems simply impossible, I ain't gonna change a thing, no way this is my dream.- Tesla -

Next week? We should have snow showers in a few hours, if it hasn't already started out there! Yee-HAW!
Was thinking of doing a challenge along the lines of the peach challenge - do SOMETHING every day, just to keep it rockin' all winter long. Hopefully mine will include several mountains climbed as that is a big goal this winter, and a few mountains descended by way of planks strapped to my feet. I'm sure quite a few days will include nothing more than a bit of homegrown ST.

Snow, rain, wind, cold, hail, and sleet, huh?! Will I be forced to start my own little "winter" challenge since I live in Hawaii or will I be welcome and just have to keep my mouth shut about the actual weather?!
Does it help if I tell ya'll that I paid my dues for 3 years in Alaska before moving to CO then here??

Ummm it helps that you did live in Alaska, Colorado is too nice in the winter (grew up there sorry - they have bad days, but they also have beautiful days), but now that you are in Hawaii you can be the moderator
That is just plain cruel! I saw snow this morning - not a lot, but enough to say hello winter is coming.

Dang it, I should have paid closer attention to the Colorado Native thing! So now, just tell me what my job is and what I must do to stay in ya'lls good graces!

They are only calling for snow flurries on Monday, but I am sure the real stuff will be coming soon.
So what do we have to do for the challenge? Is it anything out in the snow or do we have to bike?

Next week I will dig through the old challenges and pull the formulas up. It is a combo of time, temp, precip, wind, activity (you get bonus points for biking). The premis is to get you out in the crap to workout and to be rewarded with crappy winter weather points. What a payback huh?

Since it is supposed to rain every day this week I don't have to lie about that ~ I'll just have to make sure I get out there every day it rains and leave the actual temp a secret
Seriously though, this is my first winter here so I don't really know what to expect. (Sidebar ~ silly me coming to the table here) Looking at all these smiley faces makes me laugh!

Stop by anytime Hawaii
We need the warmth thrown down on us via the internet come winter time in Buffalo.

That sounds like a fun challenge!
I hate winter and need to get some motivation to train outside, instead of spening all my time on the boring dreadmill. -

I will join in. We are almost done with the October challenge and I need something to keep me motivated. I am in San Antonio, so the weather is never really too shabby. But I paid my dues too - 10 long, cold, frigid years in Dearborn, Michigan.

wgraves, you are in Buffalo? Somehow I missed that. I went to HS in N. Tonawanda. There's someone on here from Grand Island, too. Small world.
It was pretty today, if cold. Stupid third shift, I had to sleep. Oh well, it was my rest day anyway - gotta stick to the rest days if I'm ever gonna fully recover from these injuries!
I definitely won't be biking, but I'll be running and hiking/snowshoeing and maybe even throwing in a couple searches (search and rescue). Hoping to do some alpine and xc skiing this winter, too. I'm looking for a 5K or 10K snowshoe race to aim for!

Any extra points for doing an occasional polar bear plunge (no wetsuits allowed). No actual swimming but you have to go in over your head?

I live in the second coldest capital city in the world!!! Count me in! I have made a commitment to myself to try and bike in this bloody cold as long as possible, so this challenge is perfect for me. As for running, I am very strange and actually enjoy running in the winter.
