hello

Greetings!
I see that my training partner Jaitermom has joined the conversation, so I will too.
I'm almost 46 years old and have recently started "kicking up" my training. It was in the summer that my partner and I decided to do a tri. I swim fairly well, run decently and can pedal with the most fair of them. I'll never be a speed demon at any of this. I'd just like to participate and finish with pride. I know several "elite" triathletes and their intensity can be daunting at times. Can this be done while still having fun?
Training schedules are still a mystery. Any advise would be welcome.
Thanks. -

The fun is definitely within you. Speed has nothing to do with enjoyment. Don't compare yourself or your training/racing wtih anyone else or that fun may leave you. I have a great time with this and I would put myself as a middle-of-the-pack kind of person. I know people slower than me and faster than me that love it, and others that I don't know why they do it! it's all about you.

I'm with Sharon. Train hard, race hard--but don't take yourself too seriously!
As a personal testimony--I LOVE IT! Except the night before every tri--when I feel nauseous and nervous and wonder what the hell I'm doing... but I always get over it!!
Training schedules abound. Some on this site very site. Take a look and tailor to your needs!

sounds like you have a decent amount of base already built-up...here r a few things to get u on a program:
- based on your current levels of swim, bike and run, determine what program on the main site u can easily transition to - be it week one or in the middle of a program....
- from this, determine how many weeks till 'race week'
- find a triathlon at Find Your Tri based on your anticipated program race week.
i assume your goal is to do a sprint or oly? anything u have your eyes on?
welcome to the board!...AND...have fun!!!!

Dana,
I'm like that the morning of the race. I ask myself why am I doing this? This is fun? Then as soon as it starts I'm fine.
