It reminds me a bit of the technology in the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. The bummer was that each person was always being watched and they had no free will, and this was AFTER they used surgery to make you physically perfect.

Going to commit a party foul. This is just 11 minutes of the exact same idea. Basically, just make everything in the world a TV screen, and you use glass for it.
Maybe I'm getting old, but I guess I don't need my fridge, bathroom mirror, kitchen counter, walls, windows, frotn door, EVERYTHING a tv screen.

Samsung also had a prototype of a laptop using OLED technology with a see-through monitor at the 2010 CES.
Sony does have a prototype for a flexible screen also.
But you're right they are a ways off.
