The Departed *Possible Spoilers*

I took my wife to see this movie last night and both of us enjoyed it very much. I am definitely not a Dicaprio fan but he did a good job. The story line was completely believable. So much so that afterward I felt kind of bad that I picked law enforcement as my career field (it was that believable). There is a lot of graphic violence which should be weighed heavily if you are thinking about bringing younger viewers with you.
I'm not going to offer any spoilers yet. What I am going to do is HIGHLY recommend this movie to those that enjoy extremely gritty reality based cinema along the lines of Casino and Goodfella's. This movie was terrifically directed, contains an awesome musical score and has plenty of action and suspense to keep you chomping popcorn during its entirety. I would grade The Departed as a certain MUST SEE!

hear hear! (I blogged the exact same thing about dicaprio this morning!)
I loved it- it's a very long movie, but I swear, I was completely wrapped up in it and never noticed the time. My advice to viewers: Pay attention to EVEYRYTHING. I feel like I need to see it again to really get it. Some hilarious scenes too, which come out of nowhere and sort of cut the tension just enough so you relax and then BAM, something serious happens again... And I have a new crush, the lead (and only, really) woman is HOT.

I agree with you guys. More violent than I was expecting, but very good. The acting was great, the story was great, and I too feel I need to see it again. And, did you love Mark Walhberg's character or what? -

lol.. yeah... markie mark's char was a real gas! I love how he never gave anyone a break with his banter. Totally hilarious!
I to was completely engrossed in the movie and had no concept of time. This movie sucks you in, gets a firm grip on your throat and then throws you against the wall at the end after its had its way with you.
And coming from a law enforcement professional, the plot-line in this movie is totally realistic and not at all far fetched. It makes me wonder why anyone would volunteer from such undercover work. The risks involved not only to you but to your family are far and above anything they might offer in wages. Plus, the inherent ability to lie so completely is not a trait most people possess... thankfully.

I did have one problem with the end sequence though. Highlight the below paragraph if you want to see.
SPOILERS GALORE AHEAD!!!
When Dicaprio was bringing Damon down from the roof in the elevator... how did that guy waiting for the elevator doors to open know they were going to be there at that location? From the way I see it... Damon wouldn't have told anyone he was going to meet Dicaprio because he would have probably been looking for an opportunity to kill Dicaprio and it didn't seem like anyone else in the PD knew Damon was the rat. Sure, Dicaprio told the black guy to meet him there but I find it hard to believe the black guy would have told the other guy. Further, how would he have known that Dicaprio was going to have Damon in cuffs? How would he have known he was going to have to pull off an incredible split second headshot just as the elevator doors open? To me, the twist brought to the plot by this character are unfair to the viewer and smacks of the old Sherlock Holmes "The butler did it because he isn't actually a butler but is actually a school yard bully from who was put in his place by the deceased 34 years ago and has never forgotten the humilation" type of thing where as the view would have no way of knowing the information.

I do agree with you Wookie. I thought that exact same thing when it happened.
