Do Not Shop at Best Buy
BY: BIllabong140.6 on 2007-02-24 1:56 PM
I had my credit cards and cell phone stolen today. They immediately went to Best Buy purchased over $600.00 worth of stuff yet Best Buy failed to check the ID. The cops, my credit union and Visa all tell me to go to the store. The manager was unsympathetic and extrememely rude, she would not help in the least, expect to say make a police report.
Now yesterday I ate at Subway spent $4.72 and they check ID. All that Best Buy cares about is $$$ and nothing else.

Terrible experience! Doesn't VISA offer some sort of protection? I agree BEST BUY should've checked ID especially for a purchase of that amount! Post up which BEST BUY- maybe thier Phone # or e-mail and have people write/ phone campaign about thier non ID checking policy.......Sometimes if you complain loud and long enough you get results

I rarely, if ever have my ID checked to use a credit card or debit card. I feel bad for you and yoru situation, but be angry at the person who stole your stuff. -

I'm not surprised. I try to avoid Best Buy whenever possible - their customer service in the stores is simply horrific.
Since the manager isn't helping, it's time to go up the food chain - go straight to corporate and tell them what's going on. The manager's behaviour is totally unsat.

Circuit City is no better. I've been boycotting them since 1993 due to a minor disagreement we had regarding repairs to my microwave. They were complete jerks about it... over the $25 estimate fee which was supposed to be credited toward the repair of the unit. They gave me a really hard time, were very rude, and ultimately did NOT credit me the $25 estimate fee.
I've only recently gone back into one of their stores. And I don't think I bought anything.
Now where am I supposed to shop for electronics??? EEEEEKKKK!

Maybe the card was swiped by the user and not the store (like at Target). In that case, no one checks any ID? I think it's unfortunate that the person that stole your stuff didn't stop by Subway on the way to Best Buy

It is not best buy's fault someone stole your credit card. I don't think I have been to ANY store that checks ID every time. Plus, I hardly look like my ID pic anymore.
All you should have to do is dispute the charge and Visa will investigate the charges. Every time i have had a fradulent charge on my account, it has been resolved and the money returned.

both my credit card and debit card have "Check ID" on them. I always make sure to thank clerks who ask to see my ID as well, just so they continue to do it.
Sucks a lot that they bought so much stuff. I had my credit card duplicated last summer, and thank God I'm a poor student and my credit limit was only $1,000 at the time. Visa shut my card down after a suspicious purchase. You'll get your money back, it just takes paperwork.

not that this makes it any better.. but hopefully you can laugh about this shopping experience at Best Buy..
A few years ago my husband, my son (then 5) and I went out to dinner. We shared an apetizer sampler, my husband and I had side salads and our son had chicken strips and a chocolate milkshake..
There was a Best Buy next to the resturaunt so we decided to browse since we always took a walk after dinner.. we were near the video cameras when my husband and i decided it was time to go.. our son was stubborn and he wanted to stay.. my husband told him that they would be closing the store for the night and that if we didn't leave he would be locked in the store all night long.. our son started to have a panic attack.. then to top it off my husband picked up a video camera and that put our son having a fit on several TV screens.. the fit got worse and worse.. before i knew it our son was standing in a carpeted isle and he started to projectile vomit.. it just kept coming.. i couldn't get it to stop.. i grabbed jacob and took him to the bathroom to calm him down and clean him up.. he had totaled the asile.. it took forever for me to get him calmed down and cleaned up.. by the time i got back to the asile they had already cleaned it up..
i don't think i've been back in best buy since.....

If I were you I'd narrow it down to that particular Best Buy. It seems as if this happened within 24 hours they'd be able to check surveillance without a problem. It's totally ridiculous they didn't do that for you.
Take the advice of the person who gave you the upper management's contact info. and get your credit card company involved. It will be resolved so don't worry. -

Does your credit card say CID on it. Because if it doesn't, they have no reason to check an ID.

you are right. They should be asking for additional ID, I agree... but they don'tMaye 1/10 do
I am sorry this happened to you... it happened to a girl at work, although they stole her SSN and information from a doctor's office... we are not safe today in America
I hope you get it figured out, and I don't know how to prevent it in the future, for neither you or I... which is really sad

Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, as someone who's had a lot of experience in the retail sector, believe it or not, many people (I would even go so far as to say most people) get extremely indignant and hostile to sales clerks who ask for id for a credit card sale. So it's not surprising that lots of sales clerks figure it's not worth the hassle of getting b*tched at, and they don't do it. THe people who stole your cards are the enemy here, not some $8.00 an hour sales clerk who probably got his supervisor called on him the last time he asked for someone's id.
