What races are you planning to race?
BY: ssshaunaaa on 2007-04-10 6:59 AM
Just wondering what races everyone is planning to race this year. I'm thinking:
- Calgary - try this tri - June 3rd
- Calgary - Arbour Lake (maybe olympic, maybe sprint)
- A triathlon in my home town in NS (1km, 33km, 12km)

Hi Shauna,
I'm planning on SPG in Lethbridge, Wasa Lake, Sylvan Lake and Strathmore Womens. May add one more, but not sure which. Maybe Lake Chapparal?
Was quite sad that sub 10 wasn't doing Stanley Park.. that was my very first tri and I loved it!

Sylvan lake, eh? I think I need a season or too before I attempt that one! I'm looking into volunteering for it .. in the hopes it'll get me inspired to run and bike more! Good luck with your races -

Wasa lake sprint in June, maybe the Ft. Macleod oly again in August? Tmason - you did Vancouver? I was thinking about that one too.. but supposed to be moving into a house in Jjuly or August (knock on wood).. so, that might be a next-year thing. If I can keep getting my butt outa bed in the morning and not fall off the training wagon again..

I'd like to do Stanley Park (Vancouver).. but this was Stanley Park in Calgary. Nice race, good course, well organized.
Hard to get out of bed when it's snowing!! -

Cut and pasted from my log header:
SPG Olympic tri, May 13
Music marathon, May 27
GWN 1/2 IM, July 1
Sylvan Lake 1/2 IM, July 21
I did Sylvan Lake last year as my first half IM and this will be my first marathon in May. I may be biting off too much but I'll see how it plays out. I haven't been looking past the end of July too much yet.
Edit: I had Wasa scheduled in there too but my wife wanted me to cut down a bit somewhere.

My wife's doing a 1/2 Marathon in the Music Marathon.. just another example of why she's destined to kick my butt in Wasa

I decided to do my first tri this summer (only been training about 8 weeks) and have decided to do the Summerside Triathlon in Edmonton on August 26 (750m/29k/5k). I've only heard good stuff about Summerside. I decided to do this one because there is a Kids of Steel that my 7 and 4 year olds are going to do too! I was thinking and wondering if there might be another one somewhere fairly close in September since I will be trained? ~Rachelle -

Starting this for 08.
I've got:
Aurbor Lake Oly
Chinook 1/2 IM
Waitng list for GWN (fingers crossed)
IM Canada
for this year. Like to add a couple more.
ch2626,
I was thiking about Sylvan, but thought it was too close to IM Canada. How did you approach the race or did you have any concerns about the timing?

Like to add a couple more. ch2626, I was thiking about Sylvan, but thought it was too close to IM Canada. How do you approach the race or do you have any concerns about the timing? ChrisI'm fortunate, in that I have a coach to make these decisions for me. Last year's coach thought the Sylvan timing with IMC was good. (The post you're replying to was from last season).
Not to disrespect last year's coach, but my coach this year (Sara Gross) prefers me to have July/Aug without races to really build up my training....this could be because I'm off all summer, so she wants to maximize the training time. My last pre-IMC race is going to be Osoyoos this year (July 6th). I'm more on board with this mentality, as I think Sylvan was a bit close in timing...
If you get in for the GWN, I'd go with that...if not, are you willing to travel? The Osoyoos course is really good prep for IMC (scared the crap out of me the first time I was there!)
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey thanks for the reply,
I'm along the same thinking as far as racing that close to the A race. I suspect that you could treat Sylvan as a training day and keep the intesity a bit lower, but you know that wont work. I did the Desert Half last year (my first half) and it was a good learning experience.
Good Luck this year! -

Oliver Half Ironman to start, Ironman Canada (my first Ironman) to finish. Thinking about adding in Sylvan Lake HIM just to have a race in between the previous two.

We were in Lethbridge last weekend and I know that one day I would love to do the Lost Soul Ultra (if my body lets me!). I want one of those finishers' rocks!
