Steelhead 2010
BY: Silver_wlf on 2010-02-20 8:46 AM
I did it! I registered and reserved my campsite today! Whoooooohoooooooooo!!!!!
I was originally planning on doing Welland - but I found out yesterday that I won't have access to our trailer (or any of my family members) as they will all be away at Music Camp. So I bit the bullet and decided on Steelhead again.

Hi Stef, glad to hear that you are doing Steelhead again, you should have a good chance of breaking 6 hours this year. It sounds like Jeff and Dawn are doing Steelhead so we should have company again this year.

Excellent news. It will be great having everyone at the same stage of training, at least lots of options for training with good friends

KOA in St. Joseph. We had a great experience there last year - bathrooms leave a little to be desired - but we had a beautiful back-in site right on the woods. (They make donuts fresh every morning - they're amazing!)

It's about 7 miles from Jean Klock Park.

I had a few friends who did Steelhead last year and they liked it besides all the overbranding and the swim in L. Michigan.
Good luck guys!

I thought the swim was awesome! It was clear and just a little rolling last year. I think it got worse as the morning went on... The water was warm though!
I found it was less friendly than the small-town races that I'd done previously - but it's also an M-Dot event and there were over 1600 people there. I'll be ready for that this year.

Stef, the campsite said 1 tent per site... is it true? I am planning to share a site with another triees...

I don't know - we have a trailer. I'm sure people put multiple tents up - they charge per adult on the site. E-mail them - they're good about responding!

BY: Silver_wlf on 2010-08-01 8:20 PM
How was everyone's race??
The disaster at registration was a mess - hopefully they sort that out for next year because I'm reasonably sure people were ticked off... (I went shopping while Dan held my place in line. Thanks Dan!) We could have done without the rain - but at least it cleared up and didn't delay anything.
I had an AMAZING day. I wasn't sure going into it - worried about if I had enough miles in to get me through. Apparently I did. Yay!

Swim and bike went awesome...running after that was not really my thingStill hit the high end of my estimated time which was 6hours.... actually 6:00:30 I was hoping not to have that extra 30 seconds on my plate though!
I was really hoping to run a 1:50ish half marathon but ... it took me 2:35 minutes (wtf) ????

For any future benton Harbour racers- dont book at the Knights Inn off of I-94, the place is a dive. -

I stayed at the holiday inn in South haven... it's only a 20min drive to John Klock park or the expo and South Haven is a really cute/beautiful town. And free breakfast! I'd definately recommend it to anyone going again next year!
