Description: Come see why this is called the World's Toughest Half (WTH). You will never know till you 'tri'. The ultimate athlete-focused, old school "must do" race! Depart from the bland routes with overcrowded fields and enjoy a true adventure into the foothills of the Sierras. The World's Toughest Half will prepare iron-distance athletes for any Ironman event. It is a an excellent stepping stone for preparing and acclimating for the Lake Tahoe Ironman. Swim in the temperate, calm and scenic Folsom Lake (71F in '13). Enjoy a scenic, very tough 56-mile bike course with extremely minimal traffic, incredible scenery and an amazing top secret narrow road down to the secluded banks of the Bear River! Only four signal intersections (in each direction) in 56 miles. This course offers a complete test of your cycling abilities with sustained climbs, short steep climbs, flat sections and fun roller coaster sections. Your gain in elevation is ~6000 ft in 56 miles! The WTH run has gone back to it's roots with a loop down into the American River Canyon onto parts of the infamous Western States Trail taking full advantage of the challenge and beauty of the American River canyon in the Auburn State Park with no car traffic. The second loop takes the runners onto Auburn Triathletes favorite part of the run, the shaded canal trail and spacious paved State Park roads with breathtaking views of the American River around every turn!
