Age Group Rank = 10/11
Pre-race routine:

Up at 6:30 and showered. Had an orange cranberry scone and a V8 Fushion. Out of the hotel at 8:20 for the ride to Sullivan (Edward Drove). Visualized the entire way down, ate a banana and drank some water. Watched the kids triathlon and set up my stuff, obsessed over where to put everything. Signed in. Walked around. Had Spin City Cycles pump up my tires. Bought a few items from them. Sat around. Peed a lot.
Event warmup:

Walked a portion of the trail. Had a back rub. Did a few laps about 10 minutes before the pool shut down. Stood and waited for my number to go.
Swim
  • 14m 1s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not prepared for the distance of the longer lanes. Entry was sloppy and didn't get a good push off the wall. Didn't kick - that was good. Used side stroke more than I wanted to.
What would you do differently?:

Practice distance more than I did. Make swim a priority. I think that with an indoor swim your time does make a distance since with a faster time you start sooner so the water is not as choppy
Transition 1
  • 04m 9s
Comments:

Had gel and water and 1/2 banana. Took gel and 32 oz. cytomax with me on course. Changed from swim suit to bike outfit which took up way to much time.
What would you do differently?:

Swim in what I ride in - save some time that way. Learn to put gloves on while riding the bike. Get shoes that velcro and not tie.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 51s
  • 13.4 miles
  • 11.19 mile/hr
Comments:

OH MY GOD! Never rode in winds like that before. HWY 121 curve ran into 30 mph headwinds. It was like I wasn't even moving. Hill not that difficult after the winds. Crosswinds were just as bad but at least you could power through them faster. Tailwind was GREAT!
What would you do differently?:

Practice riding in winds and hills
Transition 2
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

Gel and water. Water on head on way out. Water at table as exit. Had a hard time changing shoes and getting gloves off. Forgot to take off glasses so I ran with them until I could hand them off to Ed.
What would you do differently?:

Not talk just go. Lace locks!
Run
  • 56m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 18m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Thais was the hardest part for me. Had to go to the bathroom and had hard time getting pants back on. Walked more that I ran. My legs were like rubber and I just couldn't get going. I hate running
What would you do differently?:

More bricks so my body responds the way I want it to. Look for someone to help me improve my running
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, cried, ate banana, had water, Diet Caffine Free Dr. Pepper, Turkey Subway, Stretched. Answered replies from people on the phone.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running! If there had not been a headwind, crosswind, tailwind I would have kicked butt on the bike. Swim was exactly what I expected and I know that I can improve even more in this area.

Event comments:

Don't know about post-race I was not there for most of it. Volunteers were great urging me on. Surprised by the support of the crowd.

Course: Rode out of T1 onto a city street that lead to HWY 121 from highway turned onto backroad 1275 (major hill) and made a loop back out to HWY 121 which we rode again to 1275. From 1275 we wound our way back onto the city streets and T1. Roads were in good condition and we rode on the shoulder on the highway.
