Pre-race routine:

Got to San Diego on Friday afternoon and picked up our race packets, t-shirts and hit the expo for about 45 minutes. Then went to hotel #1. Next day, checked out of hotel #1 and went to hotel #2. Met Derrick, Tracy, Amy, Matt and Dawn for lunch and then hit the expo again for a little while. Hung out downtown until it was time to have dinner and go to bed. Returned to hotel around 9:00. Watched TV until about 10:30 when I decided to try and sleep. Finally fell asleep, only to be awakened by the hotel fire alarm at 11:30. This happened two more times that night around 1 AM and 3 AM. Crap night of sleep! got up around 4:30 to drive down to Qualcomm stadium to catch a bus to the start line.
Event warmup:

If waiting in the line for the port-a-john is a warmup, then I had a 45 minute warm up. the race started while we were waiting in line and finally got into corral #27 (we were supposed to be in #22) with Amy and Tracy and my wife.

Comments:

This was my wife's first half marathon, so I decided I'd run with her and her friends that she'd been training with the whole time. They generally run between a 10:30-11:00 MM, so this was a pretty relaxed pace for me. It was a fun course. Crowded, but what can you expect? There were 30,000 people out there between the full and half marathon races. Support was great and it was much more scenic than running along my route at home. I was worried about my wife's knee which had been giving her trouble after a 12 mile training run. it held out great and we were averaging 10 MM pace at mile 10. We slowed down just a bit for the last three miles. By mile 12, Tracy had slowed a bit and Amy strangely threw up for the first of 3 times before the end. My wife was in a groove, so she kept pushing ahead and I stayed with her. She wanted to beat 2:15 for her first (and only my 2nd half) and we crossed the finish line just under 2:14. I didn't think about this at the time, but I crossed the start line just after her and her friends, but we crossed the finish line together, so her chip time was 2:13:59 and mine was 2:13:58. I accidentally 'beat' her by 1 second! Whoops! It was a great run and she did awesome on her first half marathon. It was a nice run for me too and I look forward to doing it again...or perhaps the full next year.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in hotel #1 all three nights! Otherwise, it was a great day and I couldn't have changed anything.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water, had the photos taken, ate a banana, drank some Cytomax and did some 'Finisher' shirt shopping. Also walked about a mile back in forth in the line waiting for the shuttle to take us to the light rail which would take us back to Qualcomm.
