Pre-race routine:

into bed around 10, actually slept pretty well. up at about 3:30. Breakfast (Cheerios, Special K shake, decaf coffee). Out the door about 4:50. arrived at Centennial about 5:20. pumped up the bike tires, set up my transition area, and then brought my bag and swim stuff over to the club tent.
Event warmup:

took it pretty easy, talked with friends and club members, and then got suited up for a 6:55 swim start
Swim
  • 32m 55s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

lots of contact early and some contact throughout.

I had trouble early with my goggles fogging and when I got that fixed I couldn't get them to seal properly. I had to have lost quite a bit of time dealing with that! After, I got into a pretty good rhythm and my sighting was good and my navigation decent.

my swim time was great, a good 5 minutes better than I was expecting
What would you do differently?:

hope for better behaved goggles
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

not my fastest possible, but I was more interested in being ready to ride than I was in blowing it out

6/41 AG
440 OA
What would you do differently?:

blow it out
Bike
  • 1h 32m 26s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 16.54 mile/hr
Comments:

it was my plan to take this at less than my max so that I'd have a good amount left for the run.

I managed to fly through some of the spots that always gave me trouble on the training rides. got a great time, even with coasting most of the big descents. great ride!
What would you do differently?:

go harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

like T1, my intent here was to be ready to run, not blow it out

7/41 AG
392 OA
What would you do differently?:

blow it out
Run
  • 1h 02m 13s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

started out and knew right away that it wasn't going to be as easy as my training run. I was moving pretty slow on the climbs, but kept good speed everywhere else. I pushed up the pace on the last mile or so. Good run
Post race
Warm down:

walking, snacking, talking

Event comments:

Columbia Triathlon, by the Columbia Triathlon Association is always a premiere event
