Pre-race routine:

Four of us went up on Saturday to take advantage of the coupons! We meandered up the lake stopping at some wineries and for lunch. We picked up our packet and went to the pre-race meeting. We stayed at the Ramada this time and still went to dinner at the same Italian place. By dinner we were only missing one teammate (who came later that evenning). Ericka and I zipped over to Wegmans after dinner to get some last minute supplies.

We were in the 7:30 start so we met in the lobby ~6:45 and then walked over. It was colder than last year!
Event warmup:

I did a little bit of warming up before the start (but not much).

Comments:

My first leg was rolling for the most part - the start was just a little bit different starting in downtown Geneva instead of on the lakefront. Still had to go up the stairs... I tried to race this leg as much as I could. Jill had my hoodie to give me at the exchange. The van drove by me as I was walking to the shuttle bus. They didn't stop because we figured we'd get in trouble! First leg splits: 8:33, 8:53, 8:35.

The second leg was the wedge from Glenora down to the waterfall and back up. My splits were 7:19, 12:03!, and 8:33. The exchanges were the same as last year.

My third leg was almost 2 miles longer than last year, but was flat to sligthly downhill. I thought I was slowing down, but I actually ran pretty well. Splits: 7:59, 8:39, 8:09, 7:44 (last 3/4 mile).

What would you do differently?:

Not much
Post race
Warm down:

Not much other than getting back to the van and heading to the next stop.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mileage was a little low between the marathon in March and this event.

Event comments:

We always have a really good time at this event and will be back next year.

It is very well run event except for the porta potty situation. The west side of the lake needs at least double the number of porta potties (it's early - people have had a lot of coffee!) Droves of people were headed off into the woods. Because it's early on a Sunday, no wineries are open yet and in general there are less places to stop on that side of the lake. I actually heard one guy offer to pay a homeowner near an exchange to let his team use the bathroom. It becomes less of an issue on the east side of the lake because it is later in the day so the wineries are open and there are other places like Walmart in Watkins and McDonalds in Ovid to stop.
