Pre-race routine:

Got to the res and drove around to see how slick the roads were. My AWD SUV slid out on a couple corners of the bike course. So I decided to ride the mountain bike.
Event warmup:

Jogging and getting the heart rate up trying to figure out what layers to wear.
Run

Comments:

Good run overall. Wanted to go slow the first mile because I knew mile 2 was uphill. Was really suprised by my first mile pace. Slowed down abit after that anticipating the hill. Tried to power up the hill the best I could. Ran down hill really fast. Finished strong because I know the run is the only thing that counted for points today.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster, always can run faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

After crossing the timing mat, had to run uphill to transition. Just put my helmet on and then walked/ran back down the sidewalk and jumped on the bike and took off.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 40m 32s

  • 15.99 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike portion was optional today. It was too slick, so they aren't going to count the bike portion towards the official points series. I decided just to push it the best I could on the mountain bike.
What would you do differently?:

My seat was too high on my bike. I haven't riden the mountain bike in a while. I could tell. I probably could have ridden the road bike, but since the bike part doesn't count, I didn't want to risk laying it down. Next time I need to put on a shell before I ride. I got cold going into the wind after being warmed up good on the run.

Post race
Warm down:

Tried to walk and then got cold. Had to jump in the car and get warmed up. Got some fleece on and then went and got hot chocolate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Riding the mountain bike instead of the road bike.

Event comments:

Fun race. Definately glad I did it!
