Total Time = 49m 27s
Overall Rank = 21/568
Age Group = Novice
Age Group Rank = 4/163
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal at home. Hammer Gel 30mins before race. I really thought the race would take at least 1+ hr.
Event warmup:

Warmed up in the water about 300m. Water felt good. Not many warmed up in the water but I'm really glad I did.
Swim
  • 05m 7s
  • 250 meters
  • 02m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

From the first length my goggles began to leak. These are my favorite goggles that NEVER leak! Anyway, I ended up having to stop two times at the edge to release water. Along the way I passed a few people with no problem until about the 7th length. I was passing to the left (3rd girl) but I just barely passed her before I got to the edge and realized I needed to cross lanes on her side. She told me to go ahead and cross in front of her but I couldn't get situated to kick off the wall with her right next to me, so I had to switch sides with her, go under the divider then kick off. That took some seconds off my time for sure.
Even with the setbacks I was very surprised at my swim time...VERY SURPRISED!
What would you do differently?:

In hindsite I could've not passed #3 on that length and waited once we switched lanes. I'm still not sure that would've helped my time though. Either way it cost me at least 5 seconds.
There's no way I could've anticipated my goggles doing that. They were the perfect fit up until that point. That also cost me, at minimum, 5 seconds.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Transition went well.
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I may have changed was not taking a swig of my drink and waiting to step into my transition skirt until the run.
Bike
  • 24m 38s
  • 7.39 miles
  • 18.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Only one girl passed me and she was good. I tried to stay with her the whole way. At the end she picked it up and we were separated by about 400yds. She helped me keep pushing it. I did not go all out at the end (up a hill), I saved it for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Went well.
What would you do differently?:

I could've been faster pulling my bungie strings
Run
  • 16m 42s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

I passed alot but don't think I was passed. I passed the girl that passed me on the bike.
I NEVER FELT MY KNEE!!!! That was huge.

What would you do differently?:

I could've turned it up some but lost my focus at this point. I was being moderate with my pace and enjoying the end of the race while pushing some.
Post race
Warm down:

Such a short race, I just enjoyed my family and friends and stretched a little about an hour later.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Good Goggles, the girl in lane 7, focus on the run

Event comments:

I think the race itself is wonderful. The whole idea of it is great. My only suggestion for improvement is to a) go back to giving out T-shirts and b) do something about the run course (less turns).

What was so surprising was the length of this course. It was supposed to be 9 miles, so it was surprising when it ended as early as it did.
Wind: None
Course: Course was on pretty well maintained roads. It was a very fast course with only one challenging hill at the very beginning on Old Statesville Rd.

There's NO WAY that I did 8:35 pace. Once again the course length is not accurate but I am starting to get used to it.
Course: The course was not straight-forward. A little too compact with alot of turns, but nontheless nice.
