Pre-race routine:

got up late, 3 packs of oatmeal load the car and go - 6:20 AM
Event warmup:

swim - just getting used to the water
Swim
  • 11m 52s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my second open water swim and third tri ever. My first OW swim I hung back and let the pack go out first. This time I decided to get in the mix and it and it was not a good idea. I got right in the middle and just about freaked out in the first 100yds. I got bumped hard and kicked a lot and then my breathing started to be affected and I got a little out of sorts and started freaking out... So I slowed down and got my breathing back then had a pretty good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Start out on one edge of the pack or the other instead of the middle.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

I had little bit of trouble getting out of my wetsuit. I had practiced this with the suit dry and had no trouble. Suit wet and tired... I had trouble getting out of the out of it. Long run out of transition with the bike and then I had a hard time getting into clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting out of the suit while wet. Practice running mounts on the bike.
Bike
  • 41m 14s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.09 mile/hr
Comments:

I really need to get better on the bike... I rode nearly 3 to 5 miles slower than I do in training. I'm not sure if it is a matter of doing more brick training or just more time in the saddle but I feel this is my biggest limiter. I could blame the bike... yeah it not me, must be that I need a better bike (haha)
What would you do differently?:

not sure
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

I need to learn to dismount while.
What would you do differently?:

NO much really... at one point I had to tell myself "ok you're now go"
Run
  • 23m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

felt good on the run. think i can run a bit faster pace but was mentally not driven to do so... not sure why
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

none - shower and on my way home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think lack of brick training and low volume month leading up tot he race due to vacation and job scheduling.

Event comments:

Great race, well organized.
