Pre-race routine:

Nervous! first race of my second season of tri's, and the longest i had done was a sprint. constantly thought i needed to have some olympics under my belt
Event warmup:

3 minute jog, not really sure how to warm up for 6 hours of exercise
Swim
  • 43m 22s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

went off course a lot, goggles knocked off twice. did bilateral breathing for the first time to help with spotting. overall, very easy cruising swim, felt great coming out
What would you do differently?:

push harder
Transition 1
  • 04m 21s
Bike
  • 2h 31m 54s
  • 56 miles
  • 22.12 mile/hr
Comments:

cruised the first 30 easy, threw in a little tempo from 30-45, then cruised the last 10 to freshen up the legs. the aid stations were very nice, not having to get off the bike to fill up.

back pain set in around mile 30 and was excruiciating by the end, felt so good to stand up straight.
What would you do differently?:

maybe take a break 1/2 way through to ease the pain
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

in absolutley no rush, stretched back out, talked with matt
Run
  • 1h 35m 22s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

HOT HOT HOT

went out in a 6:10 mile and came through 2 miles in 13:30, NOT SMART

had a lot of GI issues; stopped in port-o-pot once, had to stop and tie shoes twice. each time bending over legs started cramping really really bad, hard to get going again.

held on to a 7-7:30 pace for the middle from 3-10. mile 10 i tried to pick it up for last 3, but by mile 11 i was done. took absolutely everything i had not to walk. last mile was around 8:15
What would you do differently?:

go out slower
Post race
Warm down:

don't really remember finishing, was half delirious from the heat. tried to get a massage but they sent me over to the medical tent for some liquid and salt because my muscles wouldn't stop charlie horsing. after about 1/2 an hour in there i was good to go, until very very bad GI problems set in for the next few hours.

Event comments:

goal was to finish, hopefully in under 6 hours, i finished under 5 and they gave awards to top 5 in age group! it was such a surprise, wish i wouldn't have screwed around in transition so much...i'd be on my way to clearwater in the fall
