Pre-race routine:

had a bit of breakfast at 5:00 and drove to the site. I was dreading the fog and the fact that I knew that the water was going to be 85 degrees. I had hoped that the big thunderstorm we had had at my hotel in Orange might have dumped a little cooler water in the lake, but alas it was not to be.
Event warmup:

Got marked and chipped and went for a short swim warm-up. The water was hot hot hot, and very dark and cloudy. additionally, the pea soup fog made the bouys very difficult to spot.

What would you do differently?:

Spend more time swimming in a cannibal's cooking pot
Transition 1

Comments:

Good transition. There was a short grassy hill to run up to get to the mount line, and a short section of gravel road that lead out onto the road

I forgot to hit my lap button

Comments:

I had a very good ride. I really wanted to break 22mph, but it was not to be.
What would you do differently?:

Go a bit faster (maybe I need a new bike)

  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I really liked the XC aspect of the course. I thought it made the race much more interesting and allowed the spectators to see the racres several times. Plus It had a much smaller impact on the community.
What would you do differently?:

run faster

Course: Small hills here and there, no major climbs. only got o the little ring once. There were a couple of weird sharp corners on the course, but all in all it was a great course for me. Rolling and curvy, very fast. I was locked in a pretty tight battle with a big dude on a pimped-out Kestrel with a Zipp disk and a 404 up front.
