Total Time = 1h 20m 2s
Overall Rank = 121/369
Age Group = M 45 - 49
Age Group Rank = 13/28
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:00 for a 7:30 start. Hammer Perpetuem and a Chocolate GU w/caffiene. 2 cups of coffee and water to sip on.l
Event warmup:

Jogged for .06/mile. Strechehes. Swam about 150 yds.
Swim
  • 09m 57s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

150 or so yds down, 25 yds across, 150 down, and 25 yds back to the dock. The 1st bouy drifted away. So I/we were well past the left turn when people in boats, kyaks, etc. were yelling for us to turn left. I haven't heard people cuss so much in the water!
What would you do differently?:

Dunno. Wish the bouy hadn't drifted away! Maybe push the swim a bit harder. I kept thinking, "Smooth, Smooth, Smooth." Maybe that slowed me down a bit. Hope not!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 was into a run from the swim for 1.5 miles. I did fine. Had my bike gloves there so I could put them on during the run. Sox were rolled up; so they went on easy. Shoes slipped on quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I think I did fine.
Bike
  • 39m 50s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed it as hard as I could on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe focus on the 1st mile of the bike a little more. I was trying to get my rhythm and "settle down" from the 1.5 mile run and swim. I probably could have gained some time in the 1st mile. However, I feel I pushed it pretty hard.
Transition 2
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Was pretty tired from the bike. I pushed as hard as I could go. Funny - there was about a 200 lb snapping turtle in the road at one point near the lake and a volunteer was out there directing the bikes around it. The turtle was right on the center lines of the road when I went by. Darn thing was huge!
What would you do differently?:

Okay, I walked a bit in transition, but I was really tired. What would I do differently? Um, not walk?
Run
  • 28m 10s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Cramped 1/2 mile from the finish. Almost have my arms around this cramping issue. Maybe.
What would you do differently?:

Wonder if I could have backed off of the bike, and saved a bit for this last run? Naaaaaaaaaah!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around drinking water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat for sure.

Event comments:

Raced it last year, this year and will definetly do it again next year. Challenging course for sure!
