Pre-race routine:

I ate breakfast at 7:30 this morning. This was 2 1/2 hours before the race start. The timing was perfect.
I rode up to the race with my Dad. He decided to start with the walkers at 9. This is the first time that I have ever gotten to an event that early. It was so nice not to be rushing around. We were able to hang out in the gym. That was awesome!
Event warmup:

I ran 1 lap around the college.

Comments:

5K, 10K and 1/2 runners all started together. It was pretty crowded, but no biggie. There was a nice downhill at mile 2 and then it was pretty flat until mile 7. There was a quick uphill and then right back down. The next couple of miles were nice and flat. We started climbing again at mile 10. The hills weren't really anything to complain about, but they sure wore me out. I made it up them okay but I think I went too fast, because my last 1.1 miles were really slow.
I ran this race with my buddy Dan and we stayed together until mile 12. At mile 12 he took off to chase somebody down, but I could not hang on. He ended up about 1 minute in front of me, and I'm glad he went. He PR'ed by a few seconds.
My Dad also did the 1/2. He started an hour before, so that we would finish at about the same time. His time was 2:20 or so. I am super proud of him for getting out there and doing it. He hurt his achilles by ramping up his mileage too quickly and I think he learned his lesson. Next time I'm hoping he will listen to me and build up the mileage slowly.
Anyway, this was a great race. It was so nice to run with someone. The course was well marked and there were lots of volunteers pointing the way.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. This was my first shot at the distance and I am really happy with my results. I plan to keep getting in long runs every week and I know that I will get faster. I would have loved to get under 1:25, but that will happen next time.
Post race
Warm down:

Got my medal and cheered for a few people. Met up with Dan and my Dad and talked for a bit. Then we hung out for awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I guess I should run more :)

Event comments:

This is a great race. It gives me something to train for in the winter. I will be back next year for sure.
