Pre-race routine:

Had a little over an hour drive to the race site. Had some cereal and a banana for breakfast before heading out the door.
Event warmup:

Didn't have much of a warmup. Start line was about .5 miles from transition area and that was about all the warmup I had. Tried to stay under shelter as long as I could before race start.
Run
  • 27m 4s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was a muddy, sandy mess. Rained all night and all throughout the race. Started out slow as I wasn't sure what conditions would be like on bike and second run.
What would you do differently?:

Invest in a good trail shoe and train on trails a few times before race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Felt I did pretty well for my first transition ever. Since it was raining, I put a garbage bag over my things to keep them (somewhat) dry. Didn't have any issues putting on shoes or helmet.
Bike
  • 1h 07m 38s
  • 21 miles
  • 18.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Rain made the roads very slippery, but I tried not to let it slow me down much. I rode the bike course a few times before the race, so I knew the hill coming back into the park was a little tough on tired legs. I took it easy, anticipating problems but I realized I may have held back more than I should have. I should have pushed a little harder on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Good T2 considering my hands and fingers were practically numb. I undid the straps on my shoes one mile out so it would be easier to slip them off. I had to do one at a time so I could put my running shoes back on without putting my foot on the ground.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 27m 21s
  • 2.7 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't fare very well on this run. My right knee was giving me fits and was very painful to even walk. I tried to run as much as I could, stopping to stretch every once in a while, but couldn't get it worked out. Ended up walking more than running, which shows in my time.
What would you do differently?:

Run trails leading up to race.
Post race
Event comments:

Had to give it a 4 even though it was my first multi-sport race. I feel the race officials could have prepared a little better for the wet weather (rain was forecasted all week).
All the volunteers had a good attitude considering how long they had to stand out in the weather. I will be back next year, hopefully with better weather.
