Total Time = 1h 29m 38s
Overall Rank = 81/129 MF
Age Group = 55-59 F
Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Lots of mental walk-throughs the night before which worked very well to diminish concerns over the water temperature and my lack of adequate training. Up at 4:30. Yogurt, granola, grits, caffeine for breakfast. Early to transition area. Short time stretching.
Event warmup:

Ran x 10-15 minutes, then donned wetsuit. 5-10 minute warmup in water Brrrrrrrr but got used to it quickly.
Swim
  • 13m 34s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Did not feel cold in water after start but had to exaggerate body rotation to breathe. Started very slow so pacing was good. First race and third swim in wetsuit, and not used to feeling some related chest constriction though this probably did not hamper performance.
What would you do differently?:

Better navigation
Transition 1
  • 05m 55s
Comments:

T1 includes 1/4 mile run to TA in 2:34. Actual T1 was 3:20. First time with wetsuit which took a lot of care and time. Otherwise T1 was average. Not cold after swim.
What would you do differently?:

More aggressive wetsuit removal
Bike
  • 40m 8s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Quads tired early and had to decrease pace after about 9 miles but had only ridden bike 5 times in past 4 months.

Fluid losses minimal in cool and breezy but comfortable weather so minimal fluids needed. Wore tri shorts, bike jersey and was warm enough despite cold water temp and cool day.
What would you do differently?:

Need to be in better overall condition
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Fumbled with race number belt and visor
What would you do differently?:

Lay out things to put on better
Run
  • 29m 30s
  • 2.75 miles
  • 10m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Able to run entire distance without pain!!! Actually passed someone but was passed by several runners including age-group competitor (as usual).
What would you do differently?:

Gotta be in better condition for bike and run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank, ate

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather and illness prevented adequate training over prior four months and I was not in as good condition as I should have been. Lack of experience with wetsuit slowed T1 down - need practice.

Event comments:

Best effort but not good enough. Time to get back to work. No GI distress - better off without the AM smoothie.
