Total Time = 1h 24m 57s
Overall Rank = 70/395
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 4/26
Pre-race routine:

Had some cereal and a piece of toast before leaving, and a banana on the road. Drank a bottle of water on the way. Had a GU on arrival and a gatorade
Event warmup:

Race had two transition areas (which I hated) so my warm up was riding my bike the half mile to the first one and walking back to the second transition.
Swim
  • 10m 5s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

I needed more time to loosen up and calm my nerves before the swim, but my wave was last and there was a ton of people in a small area. The swim was much improved from my last one, but I still have a lot of work to do here
What would you do differently?:

Warm up more. Need to learn bilateral breathing
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

My time seems really long here, but it was almost 100% due to the crappy set up. I had to run ~300 yards with my bike to get out of transition. It was set up in one crazy long corridor. I changed gear very well, but running that far just took time. They also didnt have a bucket set up to clean your feet so I took a few seconds to clean my feet.
What would you do differently?:

learn how to leave shoes clipped into bike for a faster mount.
Bike
  • 46m 31s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.35 mile/hr
Comments:

i am happy with the bike because I kept my average speed up higher than my first race even though this was very hilly and a longer ride
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on climbing and maybe get a camel bak mounted to my bike so I can drink easier.
Transition 2
  • 00m 60s
Comments:

I got off the bike really well, btu ran right past my transition spot(i didnt remember where it was because there had been two) My legs cramped a little so I took a second to drink some gatorade and the tongue of my shoe got a bit twisted.
What would you do differently?:

my calves cramped a bit again so I was a little slow. Not forget where my spot is! (but again I blame this partly on the poor organization of the transition area and the fact that there were two transition areas to remember)
Run
  • 24m 48s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

My pace was quite a bit slower than I'd like for that distance (should be around 7:15) but there were so many damn hills. Three sections of long uphills and one steep descent made it had to keep pace. My second lap was much better though. I think if I had taken 10 seconds on the first lap to walk and catch my breath I might have reached a faster pace sooner.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more on the run so I don't cramp in my calves. I should've walked for 10 seconds at one point because I started getting a side stich, but I knew I had less than a half mile so I pushed through it.
Post race
Warm down:

found my friends, drank a bottle of electrolyte water and had a granola bar and muffin. talked with friends for a few minutes and got my results. Took my run gear back to car and then had to bike back to the other transition area to get my swim stuff and bike back up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hilly course, but I knew it so no excuse. The one thing I really didnt like was the organization. Two tranistion areas sux, and the bike being 3 loops got confusing and congested, and the run was two. just poorly directed and put together. I can't blame people who volunteer, but the even couldve been done better

Event comments:

The two transition areas were confusing and poorly organized. Made it difficult to remember where your stuff was and the long T1 was slower than I'd like. Having multiple bike and run loops was confusing as well and a few people got lost. I probably won't do this race again.

heart rate started at 135, still having trouble getting my nerves down before a swim. I started with a beginner group and was able to pass a fair amount of them. because this was a shorter swim I was able to get through it without pause (much better than my first race)
