Total Time = 1h 35m 35s
Overall Rank = 264/588
Age Group = F 45-49
Age Group Rank = 4/15
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area, visit porta potty, etc.
Event warmup:

Not much... There was not much time allowed for swim warm-up, but we were able to get a few minutes in the water before the race started.
Swim
  • 09m 30s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim was okay. My swim training hasn't been that great, so I knew it wouldn't be very speedy. No problem covering the distance, though. A few people lined up in front of the swim wave, and proceeded to breast stroke almost right away, so it took some time to get around them. I never really found anyone to reliably draft off of... Navigation was pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Better drafting, and just more swim training in general.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I was fortunate to have a PRIMO rack spot, which helped with my transitions.... However, I lost a little time fumbling with getting my garmin on, and I forgot to leave my bike shoes unstrapped, so lost a few seconds getting bike shoes on as well.
What would you do differently?:

Pay better attention to prep for speedier transitions before the race.
Bike
  • 56m 57s
  • 16 miles
  • 16.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty good bike leg. I probably could have pushed a little harder on the hills, but held back a bit to save legs for the run. I lost a little bit of time when I dropped my chain early in the course.... bummer. I don't think I lost too much time, though - probably no more than a minute. Not enough to affect my age group placing....
What would you do differently?:

More hill training, NOT DROP MY CHAIN!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Not a bad transition. Bike shoes off & running shoes on pretty quickly, I could have shaved off a few seconds by running toward the run-out while putting on my race belt. Overall pretty decent transition, though.
Run
  • 26m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty decent run. I need to do some more threshold work, though... I know I can eek out a little more speed than I did here, but overall felt it was a solid run for me.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of swim training, sloppy transition, need to do more hill work on the bike and threshold work on the run.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race. It's a beautiful course. LOTS of volunteers and great spectator support. This is a race I would definitely do again!!
