Pre-race routine:

Ate half a bagel with peanut butter and a bottle of water about 2 hrs before the race. Was a little anxious since it was my 1st triathlon.
Swim
  • 08m 14s
  • 437 yards
  • 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

About 50m into swim I realized I should have put down a faster time. Spent the first 250m just trying to pass people in a pool, which slowed me down considerably. Being a time trial start made it difficult since I put a slower time than I probably should have.
What would you do differently?:

Put a more accurate time for a time trial start, so I don't spend over half my time in the pool just trying to work my around slower swimmers.
Transition 1
  • 03m 44s
Comments:

Walked with my bike and stopped to get on. Took alot more time than needed just to make sure I had everything I needed.
What would you do differently?:

I would run with the bike and strap shoes to the bike so that I can get a better transition
Bike
  • 31m 6s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.29 mile/hr
Comments:

This course was a ride through right through Carmel. The volunteers did a great job of making the riders feel safe on the course. I think I went a little to easy on the bike since it was a realtively flat course. Probably had it in my head that I needed to save something for the run.
What would you do differently?:

I would up my cadence slightly. Ride felt a little too comfortable
Transition 2
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Again I took a lot of extra time in this transition just to make sure I was ready for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Would move faster through transition.
Run
  • 22m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Good pace but didn't push as hard as I could have. I was able to go faster than I expected, but after finishing I felt I still had quite a bit left in the tank.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for several minutes. Did some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was the first Tri I have ever done so the process of acclimating to the race was the biggest hinderance. Need to work on my transitions to cut unneeded time from my performance.

Event comments:

Was very excited to finish without walking in my first triathlon experience. Also, beating my friend that had been training for over a year and convinced me to do this with him made it that much sweeter.
