Total Time = 1h 40m 44s
Overall Rank = 328/495
Age Group = F 55-59
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4. Yogurt, grits, and caffeine. Got to race at opening of transition area and set up in the dark of the shadow of a tree. Sure glad I had a flashlight....
Event warmup:

Ran around the block for about 10 minutes. Swam about 5 minutes. This seemed to be adequate.
Swim
  • 10m 33s
  • 528 yards
  • 01m / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt good and was over 1/2 minute better than last year. Lost a little time getting tangled with someone for part of the long leg. She was swimming about my speed but off course and pushing me away until I finally flipped over her and found clean water.
What would you do differently?:

Flip over problem swimmers sooner.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Rinsed but did not dry much. Put socks on more easily than in past but still takes extra time. Time was better than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Consider skipping the socks and maybe the rinse.
Bike
  • 49m 32s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.17 mile/hr
Comments:

Significant GI distress started after about ten minutes. Thought it was exertional but have been sick now for a week since the race. Time 1/2 minute slower than last year and the pace was below my overall average.
What would you do differently?:

Better conditioning?
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Run
  • 37m 48s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 11m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

"Ran" the whole time except at the water stations. Felt I was going faster than this dismal pace. Very poor run considering I am finally mostly ortho healthy. Worse than last year and one of the worst.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat and humidity may have been a factor but fortunately there was cloud cover most of the time limiting direct sun heat. Probably was getting sick. Not well-enough conditioned. Really had to push to get a mediocre result.

Event comments:

Very nice breakfast spread. Could have used more water at the end. Lots of giveaways at the end for those who stayed. Good event.
