Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30, got everything ready and loaded up the car to drive to Forest City. I should have eaten something but I did not for whatever reason.
Event warmup:

Got my transitions setup, it is a point to point race, so there are two different areas to setup. I was able to get in the water and swim a bit before hand.
Swim
  • 11m 41s
  • 587 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was almost 90 degrees and it was like swimming in a bathtub. I really felt like I had a good swim overall, I could have sighted better on the first buoy, but the sun was really bad. I felt like I was swimming faster, although my time does not reflect it. I have swam this course faster in the past.
What would you do differently?:

more time swimming. I know I cut it back some from the pool and really tried to swim in OW more. Need to get back to the pool.
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

T1 was fine. At this race, you have to put everything in a bag before you leave, so it takes an extra second or two.
What would you do differently?:

be faster
Bike
  • 43m 25s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.97 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the first time for me to race my new bike and I wanted to hammer it. I popped my chain off at mile 3 after climbing a hill and was trying to change back to my big ring, but I think it was more my fault than the bikes. I didn't remember that course being as hilly as it was, but I felt strong.
What would you do differently?:

Only had about 100 miles before this race on my bike since mine was stolen. More riding
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

T2 went smooth. Took some water and grabbed a gel. Actually took a little more time to try and make sure legs were ready to run!
What would you do differently?:

I forgot to turn on my Garmin earlier, so it wasn;t ready.
Run
  • 30m 24s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Horrible. I knew I was not going to hit my goal time and that really bummed me out because I thought I was running a good race. I finally got my Garmin up and running by mile 1 and just grinded it out the rest of the way. Very bummed. In the past I have average an 8:25 pace
What would you do differently?:

not sure, my running still remains a mystery
Post race
Warm down:

wet towels, water, sprite and shower tent

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have been reviewing this race for two days now and I really thought I would be faster. Time to put this behind me and move on to the next one.

Event comments:

Love this race and the whole event is awesome.
