Swim
Comments: This was one of my better swims. I know it is still slow and the wave after ours caught up and passed me but I swam steady, no panics or rests stops. I did struggle with sighting, sun shine in my eyes and foggy goggles. I probably added a couple hundred meters from weaving all over What would you do differently?: Keep working at it Transition 1
Comments: LONG transition, bike was at the opposite end of the entrance from the swim, but close to the bike exit. There was allot of traffic-bikes and people at the mount line so I skipped my flying mount. I had a hard time getting in my shoes What would you do differently?: Get tri shoes Bike
Comments: Because I had aspirations of a 19-20mph average based on Saturday's conditions I rode this too hard and still only managed 17.6! I should have backed off and looked for 16+. That would not have added much time and would have left me with something for the run What would you do differently?: PACE! Transition 2
Comments: Ran right past my spot, had to back track. The rack was crowded by then, a tight squeeze to get in-still a good time given the size of the TA and the event What would you do differently?: pay better attention Run
Comments: I was gassy a bit again, presumably from swallowing air on the swim. Also trashed from my ride. My hopes for a sub 1hr run were left on the bike course IMO. The gravel got in my shoes and irritated my feet What would you do differently?: train more, more intense rides and more bricks after intense rides Post race
Warm down: water, gatorade, pizza, load the bike and drive What limited your ability to perform faster: Hard to say-this was my first Oly and my results are similar to my first few sprints-so more experience is in order. MY sleep and nutrition is suspect due to traveling, eating out and with family. No real breakfast and was too tired the night before for much of a dinner so I may have been behind but a 3 hour event shouldn't demand that much? I also had almost no sleep and that might have snuck up on me Event comments: This was well run, upbeat and fun-lots of spectators, not a bad venue. Parking is tough for spectators that want to watch but not arrive at 6am. Finishing medal is cool and a good race packet which I haven't seen in some time Last updated: 2010-12-30 12:00 AM

Nothing routine about it. We had traveled to KC after spending the week with relatives near Wichita, stayed with my cousin in KC, did some sight seeing, very little sleep the night before as tornadoes rolled through the area
I actually got to do a swim warm up and I think it made a difference
