Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 AM, loaded everything into the truck and rode about 15 minutes to the race. Drank a little gatorade and water and had a energy bar. Set up the transition area nicely.
Event warmup:

Walked around and stretched a little.
Swim
  • 10m 12s
  • 550 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was the worst part of the race, it was mostly a wade throughout the entire race, everyone was standing for most of it so it was difficut to get into a swimming position.

We were about 50 yards from finishing the swim and i figured I would just walk the rest of the way in since everyone else was doing so as well, on my way in I stepped on a knobby stump and bruised up my left foot. it would come back to hurt me during the run.
Transition 1
  • 05m 12s
Comments:

Decent transition, i took my time.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 52s
  • 18 miles
  • 15.68 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike went really well, this was the one area i thought was going to be the toughest. So instead of going out hard i took it easy, because i knew i still had the run afterwards, the first half of the bike had a lot of rolling hills but after that it was pretty flat.
What would you do differently?:

I should have really pushed the bike part a lot harder. I was riding with a hybrid bike and managed 15.7 mph for the course, not bad i thought but i could have went a lot harder.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Really good transition, out the bike in the rack and went out for the run.
Run
  • 39m 38s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was the worst part of the race, i felt good other than my left foot which i hurt during the swim, i didnt feel it on the bike but when i hopped off and started the run i could barely walk on it at first, i walked about the first half mile. I had been running about an 8:30 mile but with the injusry i could not keep up that pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and beer and a few slices of pizza.

Event comments:

Would have loved to break 2 hours for my first, i think i would have if it wasnt for the injury, but all in all i had a fantastic experience and cannot wait until the next one.
