Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00am. Had a Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Met-RX bar. Shaved, brushed my teeth and got everything ready to leave. Left the hotel at about 4:30 and got to the Colesium at 4:45. Found the shuttle to the start line and got over there about 5:00. Was suppose to meet others BTers over there so I waited for them, which seems like forever. I probably left a lot early then I should have. It started to rain a little before the race so I was a little nervous, because I hate the rain. Peed in a bush on the way over to the start line and got there just in time for the national anthem and to watch the wheelchair race start.
Event warmup:

I only have so many miles on these old legs, so I don't waste them on warm-ups.

Comments:

Started out perfect, 8:30 min/mile. Just were I wanted to be. See log for splits. Started to pick up the pace at about mile 4. Saw a guy handing out shots of Jim Beam at about mile 3ish. As I finished the 10th mile, my quads started yelling at me and telling me to stop. Probably because of the hills. I slow downed a little but still keep a good pace. I took in gels at about 40 mins and 1hr 15mins. Had 2 cups of powerade on the course and two cups of water. More like half a cup in my mouth and half a cup on my shirt each time. For a good part of the race I was behind some really really hot girl. So it made running a lot easier. I couldn't really ever catch up to talk to her, but then she stopped for water and I passed her and never saw her again.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish line and got some water and a blanket. Then had my chip cut off, got my medal, got some powerade, some orange slices, more water and then a banana. Walked around a bit before I wanted to sit down and stretch. Did that and then watched the marathon winners fly across the line. Talked to Jessi Stensland for a bit and then decide to walk to my car. Got my Gatorade Endurance, camera and cell phone. Called Shannon, Amanda (am6ja4)'s friend to meet her at the finish line. Called Chris (cbost2678) to see if he had finished yet, and headed to the marathon finish line were I stood for the next 4+hrs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hill training. But what can you do in Florida. Additional comment: Just thought of what I can do better to train, next year I'll run stadiums to train. I walked on campus and remember this feeling in my legs. They hurt like when they did after I did stadiums.

Event comments:

Well put together race. Had lots of fun with the fellow Bters in Nashville. They were all the first groups I'd ever met.
